I'm curious to know if anyone here is into rhythm games (or was at some point) like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and so on.
I enjoyed these games, if mainly because the majority of the music is the kind of music I enjoy listening to, even though I was not really a well-skilled player like some of the elites (i.e. GuitarHeroPhenom, ukogmonkey, gamerboy, among others whose fingers are ridiculously dialed to the plastic guitar frets).
I mean, I could hold my own and pass the majority of songs on any given iteration of GH or RB on the hardest difficulty, and could Gold Star a good portion of songs when I sang Vocals in Rock Band (Guitar Hero Vocals is harder by comparison for the most part). I was decent with drums even, though having a second bass pedal for Expert + in Guitar Hero was quite perplexing because a lot of songs that had the supported difficulty also had long strings of quick double bass notes coming at you (and don't even get me started on blast beats like in Bloodlines on Warriors of Rock, and then the drum solo for Beast and the Harlot on Smash Hits-oof).
I really enjoyed these games nonetheless, and kinda miss playing online with my friends, but with RB4 and GH:Live on the PS4/Xbox ONE exclusively, I've basically fallen off the grid there.
I've played both RB4 and GH:Live; I like that one can get all the songs and DLC from previous RB games in RB4, but I don't see why one should have to buy the DLC again if they've bought it previously.
As far as GH:Live goes, getting used to the 3x2 fret button layout is definitely a challenge, but doable. I couldn't play a lot of the GH:TV songs, but the GH:Live portion of the game wasn't too hard for me. As far as using a First Person View and video backgrounds of a live on stage band and crowd that changes dynamically based on overall performance, it is a novel idea.
If I were to get a PS4, I'd likely grab both RB4 and GH:Live. But I'd have to get the peripherals needed, not just the games. I have many other expenses to deal with first, but that's beyond the scope of this topic.
So, what are your thoughts?
