Rise of Erebus

Over 6 hours of game play!

Story

The kingdom of khilos and the rest of the world are in danger
now that Erebus (the son of chaos) has torn a rift between
the underworld and the land of the living. Using the element
of chaos, Erebus has broken out of Hades to collect the
souls if the living and rule the world. King Phyleus has
summoned you, the general of his army to put a stop to
the havok and restore order to the kingdom. You must work
together with (insert name here), a witch of healing, and
Agrius, A servant to Erebus, to collect the three shards
that make up the elements of chaos to destroy Erebus
and close the rift, leaving him forever trapped in the
underworld.

Setting

The world is set in a friendly environment, but is overrun by
monsters. It is now unsafe to walk the land or even go outside.
The Kindom of Khilos, run by King Phyleus, is the last line
of defense for the world as the unknow now roam the land.
With dangerous caves and forests, the people have no choice
but to hide inside in fear. There are Fourteen continents
which make up the world, with vast oceans between them.
Deep caves and dungeons dwell within the land, And the
towns and houses are full of helpful people to talk to.

Based on the screenshots, your first game at least as far mapping goes, looks pretty good.

I actually feel like giving this game a try.

Thank you I have been working on it for for a while. Though it is my first so i wouldn't expect much.

So I downloaded this game yesterday and I took it for a spin, and I'm going to be honest here and I hope that I can convey this in the most tactful way possible.

Your game is unplayable.

There is horrible lag and I think it has to do with your diagonal movement system, which I found to be a novelty that wound up annoying me because I couldn't navigate the way I needed to.

Another thing is that I don't really know what I'm doing or where I'm going. Your quest journal is too vague and I don't know anything about my characters other than one has an eye patch for some reason and the other has fairy wings. I understand that naming my characters sounds good on paper, but by playing through with these two guys in the first ten minutes, I'm not attached to them at all. When I reached the King in the morning he said there were 'disturbances' or what have you and I wondered who my guy was and why he's taking orders from this guy to start with.

I believe your mapping needs quite a bit of work. For instance, the castle in the first town is a very vast, open area with a few guards along with the monarchs. When I began in the main character's house, I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing and I wound up walking around in his house for a good five minutes spamming the Space key checking if I was supposed to interact with something.

There are spelling errors and message box issues across to board- especially in the pub. Another thing I noticed is that your items are way too expensive for the amount of money that is accumulated in-game. Also, I noticed there is a little GP bar in the upper right corner- is that necessary?

I see you've used a mixed bag of scripts, including a side-battle system. However, I don't really understand how my little sprite dude can attack these big, default RTP battlers. The battle music you selected aggravated me. I recognize it from one of the resource packs, if I'm not mistaken. It's either one of the free release from Kain Vinosec or one from his two resource packs.

I got to the point where I find Damon and go use his boat or something like that. I wound up getting stuck in the map and the rate of random encounters and the lack of skills from my characters made it too frustrating to continue. It's a nice demo, but in my honest opinion it needs quite a bit of work.

Your game is good. But it's so hard!  :D

I noticed the first castle, I think it's too big.

The quest-log is good.

I will play your game again and finish it after some time.

This is pretty cool. I play games like this to kind of get an Idea for my game though. I really love the torch effect. Good Job may you present many more. I'm not one to critique.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
