Well, considering how long it took me to finish this one, I'm gonna do it every 3 months or so.

Very happy to. @TRIDIUM After wasting like half an afternoon because the Internet claimed stuff was free but they really were ponying up the search results because of their free demo… had to dish the real sauce.

Thank you for putting all these segments together, Tridium!
So how much effort was this to put it all together? You think you'll keep it going for next quarter?
Edit: Nvm, my internet was being weird, saw the previous responses just now.

Not that much effort. I had to restart, after Movie Maker went down, and I had some last minute submissions as a I was about to finish the editing, so probably yeah.
Submissions are still open for next time, if anyone's wondering.

You can also check out DaVinci Resolve. It technically is not free, but has a very fair license. There is a "lite" version which has all the tools (and then some) you would need for cutting together a YouTube video. It's much more responsive than Adobe Premiere (throw that sh!t in the garbage) and is just as flexible...but also a little bit of a learning curve.
Give it a try if you want!

Yes! I do have a little surprise thingy planned for Christmas, if I actually motivate myself (very unlikely). I can show it then, if I finish it in time.
Also, FTR, I'm going to directly snoop around and find cool games, then ask the devs, rather than just take submissions.

Thanks Fish for the buffer between my posts.

So after watching this...
It's not quite what I expected, but on the other hand, I also guess I had way too high of expectations, lol.

I didn't think this would just be nearly 20 minutes of just back to back trailers of games that don't even have a release date.
I watched the first couple of trailers but quickly lost interest and just started skimming at that point.
Here is my advice on how I would run this:
  • First and foremost; pick games that actually have a release date. These are not high profile, AAA games in established franchises. When Elder Scrolls 6 was announced all those years ago, everyone was hyped because it was an established franchise. However, here, we are talking about games from people no one has heard of and probably doesn't really care about. So by the time they actually release, everyone will have forgotten these games. So pick games that actually have a release date.
  • Second: I'd keep this short. If you're just cutting trailers together (which I advise not, I'll get to that soon), then keep it to about 5 minutes, +/- a minute. I'd say 5 minutes, 5 games. 1 game a minute.
  • Third: If this is like Nintendo Direct, then Nintendo Direct serves a purpose: to market games. You are doing an important job for the games you feature, which is giving these games a platform of visibility. Make sure you are providing a good service by featuring these games in the best light. Long uncut game play that is not interesting to watch is not providing a good service. I'd say if you are showing game play, keep the clips really short (unless there is unique art & atmosphere to take in).
  • Fourth: This is a good time to platform some devs. I think if you expanded this to about a 10-15 minute show, you could do short (and keep it short) interviews with the devs. Hearing people passionately talk about why they love the game they are working on (but not in a 3 hour long dev stream) I think is really interesting and would probably help drum up some excitement. They're excited, we should be excited too! I'd probably prepare a pretty bog-standard list of broad open questions and ask devs to respond. I like the questions @TESTOSTERONE recently asked me: "Where do you see the story going?" & "How do I beat the game?" They are broad, but also focused on their topics, and they don't sound like your typical "What's the story about?" "Tell me about the game play". If they can record their response, great! If not, maybe ask someone in the community to read their written answer for you (I'd be happy to contribute my voice for a few readings).
  • Fifth: I'd make sure to set up submission rules for devs to ensure multiple things; from reducing your work, to keeping a quality bar for what you present, and reducing the number of uninteresting submissions. Rules such as the aforementioned requirement that the game has a release date, the game must have a trailer (a trailer! Not an uncut game play video), and certain quality requirements such as "No RTP! Only RTP with edits", "Voice Acting," "Original Music" whatever you want to set as the quality bar at, I would just make sure that is there.

Finally, you could include a short 1 or 2 minute section at the end of the video following up on games previously announced. For example:
"Wind Ryder delayed until September 29th", "Dime A Dozen reviews have come in and landed this game an 'overwhelming positive', congrats to the dev!" or even a "Did you miss this? Forest of Lesbians is a top rated game launched 2022 and has been well received." A section to cover quality RM releases that may have launched that you didn't cover, either because you just missed their launch or it came prior to when you started this video series.
Just some food for thought. This is something I would definitely watch. But in it's current itteration...I think I'll pass

Thanks for all the tips! I knew I did things wrong, I just wasn't sure exactly what.
Since this was the first one, I took literally anything, so next time I'll have to set some rules.
The follow up idea is great! I was planning to narrate stuff, but I don't have great equipment and I was tryin' to get it out as fast as possible. Do you think that would help?

Narration would be a big plus, but yeah, I hear you on the equipment. If you're recording through an Xbox360 headset, maybe ask the community for someone to read your script?
It's worth noting, people don't tend to realize how good the microphones are on our phones. The mic's on most modern phones come through really clearly, the only downside is that they capture a really wide field; basically any noise you can hear, the phone's mic can hear. So distant traffic or yard work will be audible if you can hear it.
Get a thick blanket, go into a closet, set your phone down, hit record, try not to fidget too much. Job's good.

Yeah, I understand it's your first; I should have made that clear I understand why it's current iteration is the way it is. We all gotta start somewhere. So as a first time job, not bad. Also, not sure what the view count is at, but when I saw it was really good for a first video on a channel with 0 subs, so I'd say overall a positive start.
Just like with games - or really anything - let's learn from our past and make improvements for the future. I hope in a year's time you can look back at this first video and be like,"Oh god, what was I thinking!?!"

Okay, updated the rules!
The plan for the next one:
A few trailers, no more than ten.
Christmas themed one's take priority!
An interview? If you're interested, PM me. Only requirement is that you've...actually made a game.
If you have resources you would like me to promote, I'll do a quick section for those.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Alright, a little bump. I only really have one submission at the current moment. So, please, don't hesitate!

Shameless bump, and I know I mentioned it earlier, but I would like a game to review. If I don't have any submissions by the end of the weekend, then I guess I'll find something myself, but I need to start working on that ASAP.
