RM2k Game Installer bug and sharing games

Hello.

I'm having trouble making a game installer for my RPG Maker 2000 game.

When I try making one it asks me to choose a folder to create it in,

I get a screen showing progress on making the installer and it looks fine,

but when it's done the folder is just empty.

Also, I tried just taking the entire folder for my game and putting it in winrar to share with my friend.

But the game won't start on his computer, it just asks for RTP,

we tried installing the RPG Maker 2003 RTP from this website but it did not help.

I tried looking for the RPG Maker 2000 RTP but couldn't find it anywhere.

Anyone have any idea how I could make a game installer or make the game run on my friend's PC without him having RPG Maker 2000 himself?

I'm using RPG Maker 2000 Value! Version 1.60 on Steam.

It might be that the folder you're targeting is one of the restricted folders.


Please state which Windows version you have and which folder you're trying to create the installer in.

I have Windows 7 and I tried three different folder locations.

C:\Users\gavinrad\Documents\RPG Maker 2000   (The default location for projects in my RPG Maker 2000)

C:\Games  (My game folder)

E:\RPG Resources   (Folder I use to store stuff I use in RPG Maker, .png images, wavs and such)

I thought it might be a steam issue, so I closed down steam entirely and opened RPG Maker 2000 from the folder I installed it in,

but it just automatically logged me into steam again and making the game installer didn't work.

what is the total size of the project folder?


have you tried reinstalling RN2K to make sure that the files are all undamaged?

Since it's on steam, make sure to verify the cache. This can fix a lot of steam problems.

The project folder is 41,1 MB.

I have reinstalled RPG Maker 2000, it did not work.

I also tried making a new project and then just making a game installer for it, it didn't work either.

I've also tried with and without the "Include Runtime Package in Game Disk" option, neither works.

Just verified the cache on steam and tried again, no luck.

Then it's a general bug with the program.

If you tick the "Include Runtime Package in Game Disk" option it should include the RTP, but if you can't even make a game disk, theres not much you can do,

You can just create your own installer by using WinRAR's self-extract feature, for example.

I think I found the issue. The Steam release was missing a file. (The DRM-free release should be working fine.)

We'll fix it asap.

Yeah, but that doesn't have RTP.

Fixed anyway so nvm.

Just for completeness: In order to prevent the game from complaining about a missing RTP, you can add the following line to the game's RPG_RT.ini file:

FullPackageFlag=1

However, you have to make sure that all needed files are included in the package, of course.

If you only use a few RTP files, if any at all, this might be even better than including the whole RTP.

Downloaded the file from dropbox and it works now,

made the installer and the game ran without problems on my friends PC.
