RMMV is unplayable for me

I can open the Steam version and mess around with the editor without much issue, but whenever I hit playtest, it takes eons for the game to load. When I checked, it seemed to have taken 3 minutes for the game to start up, 30 seconds for the player window to come up, mind you. To make it worse, whenever I choose to do ANYTHING in-game, such as open the Options menu, start a new game, or even open the main menu in-game, I have to spend 1-2 entire minutes waiting for the game to load. This has rendered MV nearly unplayable for me. It doesn't help that other MV games made by other people are incredibly laggy on my PC as well. I'm using a really good Gaming PC, one that can run games like Overwatch with almost perfect FPS, and for some reason a software like MV doesn't work? Version 1.5 of MV has caused nothing but problems for me so far. Is there any way I can fix these issues?

The most likely culprit is an antivirus software. They tend not to like javascript. Add the MV program folders, project folders, and any MV game folders to your antivirus's "trusted" list and see if that makes a difference.

3D gaming uses different techniques and resources than 2D, which is why a lot of good computers have two display chipsets and two display drivers installed, one optimized for 3D and one optimized for 2D.
However, if there is a failure with the 2D chip or driver, then your 3D games might still run perfectly while everything 2D is slowed down.
Have you checked if your computer has two display drivers and updated the one for 2D?

So, as a short update, it appears that MV runs perfectly fine on my crappy 5-year-old Laptop. I'll definitely try the above methods ASAP, though.

Pardon my double post, but where exactly can I find my display drivers? So far I've been checking my device manager, and the only Display Adapter I have is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB graphics card. And it's up-to-date as well.

Also, the Antivirus method doesn't seem to help all that much. It still takes a while to load anything.

If you had two display cards installed, then you would have two entries in the device manager.

So from now on it's guess work to find the cause.
Can you post a screenshot of the program properties/installed programs from the Windows control panels?
Perhaps we can identify the background program interfering that way.

EDIT: the above does not count if you have an "unidentified device" (or however it is called in your language in Windows) in the device manager. That could be a display card missing its driver completely.

Yes, although it's not the complete list.
And on that part of the list the only thing glaring out is the Norton Internet security...
Are you sure that you cleared MV everywhere in that program?
Because it has a lot of independent components that are very invasive (or at least had been five to ten years ago, they might have learned something from that time when everyone I knew only called it by less civil words).
If that is clear, then give another screenshot with the list scrolled to the remaining parts.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have everything on my Trusted list, I added the RMMV folder from my steamapps, all of my game files, and all of my installed MV games on both my "Items to Exclude from Scans" and "Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect" lists. Also, there's nothing much to the rest of my list other than a bunch of games and programs like Gimp, Audacity, and 7Zip.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have everything on my Trusted list
On which trusted list?
The complete Norton Suite has or had five or six components, and each had a different list for exceptions. That was one of the big problems with Norton in the past.

If that is not the cause, can you give us a description of your computers hardware?
Because there is nothing else on that list that could cause problems.

Additionally, can you search for a program that can read out the HDD S.M.A.R.T. status? For example checkdrive?
If there are too many bad sectors on the HDD, this might also be the cause - although you would shortly detect problems with your other programs as well in this case. The RMs are more delicate to HDD problems due to them saving like a databasing program instead of regular file saving procedures, but if your HDD is that bad the other programs will show errors within a few months as well.

As I said, I added all of my MV-related folders to the "Items to Exclude from Scans" and "Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect" lists in my Antivirus settings. I don't know where these extra components are.

As for my specs...

OS: Windows 10
System Type: x64-based PC
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor, 3500 Mhz, 3 Cores, 6 Logical Process...
RAM: 8.00 GB
Hard Drive Size: 238 GB, 168 GB free

Hope that helps.

Update:
So it looks as if something I did worked, because the issue is now solved. Playtesting runs very smoothly, and it only takes 10 seconds for the game itself to start this time. I'll try some other MV games to see if they have no lag, too.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
