RMMZ what is game ID used for?

Hi all,

I bought rpg maker mz when it launched how ever I haven't touched it much until i finished my MV project and published.
Now that I am heading into my next project I would like to use this engine. The more refined engine of course!
I am changing all the settings and resolution to what I need everything to be. Under the System 2 tab I've come across
the Game ID.

What does the game ID do? what purpose does it serve?

I'm pretty sure it's randomly assigned when a project is created. As for what it does, I'm not sure. I suspect it might be how the project decides what save files belong to this particular game and not another one. You can reference the gameID in plugins as well, though I'm not sure what you'd gain by doing so

so, what would happen if i change the game id for a different number ? (or word) ?

if you change that value after saving, the saves will become incompatible.
if you use the same ID for different projects, the engine will try to load the wrong saves causing other errors.

So basically messing around with the ID after starting development can cause only problems, and changing it before development will have no advantage at all.

any ID should always be unique in its context and you should never use an ID twice (which is usually impossible for most IDs anyway)

i mean, it definitly works, but you recocommended to make a backup first.
