I got bought VX Ace on Steam the other day and it was working perfectly. However, today when I try to playtest I get a 'Failed to Create Process' error. I've tried verifying the install and reinstalling the program with no luck.

Every topic I've seen for this problem says to replace the 'game.exe' file or to just try make a new project, but I still get this error in both instances. I've otherwise made no changes to the install or the projects since. (I just playtested an older project which worked perfectly, closed the program, came back to it today, mapped for a while, and then found out the playtest wasn't working).

It may also be relevant that an error with Steam started at the same time; when I try to open VXAce through steam, I get a 'Failed to start game (unknown error)' message. At the same time my Steam version of RMXP won't launch anymore. I'm using Windows 8.1.

Any help would be appreciated!

Ok Go to

Documents/RPGVXAce/

folder and empty it.

Just cut - paste everything elsewhere.

There might be a project there that VX Ace tires to load on opening and for some reason something goes wrong.

Otherwise I got no idea what else might causing it.

Keep in mind that uninstalling the program and reinstalling it probably leaves unharmed that folder, so it is the only constant in this problem.

Let's eliminate this possibility and tell us what happened.

I hope it will work though.

You got Windows 8? Hmm, can't be of any help really I don't use them.

You should check if you run the processes with admin privileges though.

Will notify a very experienced user on W8 to help you too.

I tried emptying the RMVXAce folder and it didn't make any difference. I also ditched a script set I had from the Steam Workshop to see if that was it, but that made no difference either.
When I try to run VXAce as administrator I get "Application load error P:0000065437" but it loads up fine if I open it normally. Thank you, though!

That was surrealistic...  :dizzy:

Anyway did you just said it loads up ok if you run it normally?

Happy you can work with it again!

It loaded up normally but the error persisted. I've fixed it now, though; maybe this'll be useful for someone who encouters the same thing.

It turned out my firewall (Comodo Firewall) is a bit dodgy with Windows 8 and every so often acts up, seeming to close but blocking any non-windows or largely recognisable processes - so it essentially ended up blocking my RMVXAce's attempts at modying the game's data folder. It's fixed simply by opening the firewall from the desktop.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance, though :D

Oh!

Of course!

I always forget to ask such a thing, since I set my firewall to full manual ( I am a control freak) so it is me who decides what is going on or not.

It has to do with lists of Digital Signatures for software.

If you got one well known, you got no problem.

If not, auto-configured firewalls can become sexy.

Good to know!

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD

Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
