I'm not really sure if this is the best place for this question. If it's not, please direct me to the appropriate forum section for it.

I've wanted to make a nice intro for my RPG Maker XP game for a long time. However, RPG Maker XP doesn't seem to have any built in function for making text appear seamlessly on screen against any background without any borders or boxes around the text.  I'm sure it can easily be done with scripting... but I'm no programmer or scripter, that's why I use rpg maker, after all.

Basically, I want the text to appear sort of like this:

I want to be able to control where on the screen the text appears so I can format it to my liking.  I also would like to be able to use different fonts and font sizes.  Some cool stuff, like having words appear at timed intervals for dramatic effect or letters appearing slowly to reveal a word would be really nice.

I'm sure their must be scripts out there that do this.  Can anyone recommend some good, trustworthy scripts for this that won't screw up my game please?  My Rpg Maker XP version is at least a couple years old.

The only way I've found to do anything like this in RPG Maker XP without scripting is to use pictures, type the text on the picture and have rpg maker display the picture in game, basically.  But that takes forever, especially if you have a relatively long intro... (47 lines) that's at least 47 picture slides then, if you want each line of text to appear separately.  I'd really like to find a more practical way to do this.

Thanks for the help!

No, not the right place. General Discussion is for discussion about general game development topics, not for "how do I ..." with a particular engine. Moving to RMXP Support

Also, +1 for CCOA's UMS.

If you want to do it without scripts, you could use pictures. But that could be a lot of pictures. We used both methods for the Aveyond games.

ccoa's UMS seems what you need.
Can this be used to make text appear without borders or boxes on screen? Like in the video I linked?  From what screenshots and videos I've seen of it, it seems like its just used for regular dialogue boxes.

You don't even need a script for that,

In the Events Command, pick Change Text Options, then hide Window.

Thanks!  I actually didn't know about that. I just tried it out and it seems like it would work pretty well for some things.  However, I'm not sure it gives me enough freedom for a long and completely seamless, automated intro. Also, while that feature does remove the dialogue box/border, it leaves this small flashing icon on the screen under the text which kind of ruins the effect for me.

I would like to have about 10 or 15 lines of text on the screen at the same time, with custom formatting and spacing. Starting at the top of the game window and being typed out across the screen until the lines of text reach the bottom of the game window, basically.  Without any borders or boxes of any kind.

Is there any way to do this?

For the 10 or 15 lines, ccoa's UMS can do that. Just check it out.

You could always edit your windowskin and change it through the UMS. There's also an option to change the window's opacity, that might take care of that.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
