What Jackus posted. You can review the EULA in Steam by going to the software's store page, then clicking the link in the area shown in the screenshot:

Oh, *whew*, I was afraid I'd missed something big there.

You know, the most common lie in the 21st century is "I have read and accept these terms"... ;)

...Ho hum.

What I find interesting is:

2. Licensee shall not reverse engineer, de-compile, or disassemble the SOFTWARE. Further, Licensee shall not sell, distribute, assign, lease, sublicense, encumber, or otherwise transfer the SOFTWARE and/or its data without any prior written consent of ENTERBRAIN.
Does this mean we are allowed to use the tons of 'Patches' out there, because we wouldn't be directly de-compiling it.

Also, at http://rpgmaker.net/engines/rm2k3/bulletins/30/ :

Cherry said:
This finally officially allows creating commercial games with RPG Maker 2003 (after a registration). Fortunately, the license also doesn't have any clause preventing modifications, e.g. through the use of patches. However, the reverse engineering itself is still prohibited.

Great work, guys! I can't believe you actually did this. :D

Hmm...choosing only one character is actually very hard, as I've written (and never finished :( ) stories for a lot of them. Making special mentions to the XP lancer girl, my first game's main and Eric, hero of the longest game I never finished, I'l choose the cloaked evil wizard guy. He starred Zombie Princess Maker as an inept necromancer trying to take over the kingdom by creating the perfect princess.

Someone will probably be by to officially respond to this, but a similar situation has been discussed on this forum before, so based on that conversation I would say: Don't count on it.

If doing something would require modification of the software by the means mentioned then if would probably be against the EULA to use fruits of said illicit actions.

I'll see if I can find that thread were there was a similar discussion on VXAce.

Edit: The thread I was talking about never had an official response, but the situation is similar and I would recommend taking a look through it. http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/33330-is-this-legal/

i'm just assuming we can't use them, because I don't really mind if we're not, it's just that part of the EULA wasn't very clear about what we can and connot do.

It took some thinking to come up with a favorite RTP character, but I'll have to go with Alice.

Even going by what backstory she's given (which is already more than most RTP characters ever get), she's the sort of person who would not only forgive her enemies, but try to redeem them. Even if said enemy was the lord of all evil. She'll still fight if she has to, but almost never with hatred in her heart. (At least, that's my interpretation.)

Favorite RTP character is without a doubt the amazing Don Miguel from RPG Maker 2000 (As in the thief with goggles and green clothes). If it wasn't for him, none of us would be here today.

It is kind of interesting, isn't it? I'll be the first to admit that if Don Miguel hadn't illegally translated rm2k for my use all those years ago, enterbrain/degica would probably have a few hundred less dollars in their account from my purchases over the years. It's kind of ironic that he's most likely seen as a criminal/villain by the powers that be. He was the Amakusa of his time, the Russian rebel demanding that all people have access to the wonderful world of RPG creation. Never forget his blessed name.

Oh, my, gosh...! My favorite RPG Maker is now finally released overseas, YES! <3. And not just that... but with some bugfixes and upgrades, SWEET! <3. I recall the poll made on this same forum like a year or two ago, asking if 2k3 were released you would or not buy it. Of course I voted yes, but I didn't limited myself with that. I recommended the program to friends and made they know about the poll (and now about this release) to those I knew were still using this. Somehow I feel I were able to contribute a small part to make this finally happening, that makes me really happy~ Of course, this is still mainly thanks to Archeia and everyone else who shown interest and helped to make it real.

Same with me. Don Miguel, all the blesses upon you.

Is it possible to get a key for Store-Version of RM 2003  if you have bought the Steam-Version?

I got the same question for VX Ace actually. don't wanna hijack or something, but I suppose that whoever can give an answer for 2k3 can also reply for VXAce and it doesn't really deserve a whole thread as a question...

ALSO:

I can say that the marketing team did a fantastic job on the video.

Just another question... I saw GCH involved on this. Will it be possible to resize easily and fast assets of 2k3 to VX Ace format???

If so, this will be jaw dropping. You can get RPGM2k3 in fact as a DLC that needs a LITTLE tweaking.

I think its music pieces were nice too. They had some nice tunes... :p

So, about Tiles, Character facesets, character sprites, Battlers, monsters, backgrounds and music and sfx pieces... will it be possible using GCH and how hard will it be to port the assets? Not to mention that owning it actually legalize the use of the assets so its good news anyway.

Why oh WHY did it took them 12 years? :D

Sure, you can buy and own both versions.

If you're asking whether we'll be giving free store keys to Steam version owners, the answer to that is no. :)

But how about vice-versa just like the Ace keys.

No. The Ace Steam keys were originally offered as courtesy because the Steam version was not initially available and some users would have preferred it over the store version. It was a limited time offer and we have discontinued it since. :)

With RM2K3, the Steam version is available right away and the RMW store will be up shortly, so there's no reason to offer complementary keys. Simply purchase the version you would prefer to use. :)

So does this mean we can legally use RM2k3 graphics in RMVX Ace? I always loved the battle animations/enemy sprites from RM2k3 the most and would love to use them in RMVX Ace.
