So does this mean we can legally use RM2k3 graphics in RMVX Ace? I always loved the battle animations/enemy sprites from RM2k3 the most and would love to use them in RMVX Ace.
As with all makers, only if you legally own both the maker where the RTP comes from and the maker you're using them in.

Sweetness! And just great. If I win, I'm going to be working on Ace AND 2003...

WHICH IS FINE! I'll take it!

My favorite is Rick.

His laidback demeanor belays the hatred underneath and his deftness of skill. He looks like he would be underestimated, even with his nasty scar, bandage, and cloak, which aids in his mastery of theft.

Favorite rtp character, huh? Well, I would have to go with Ernest.

He "mastered the Magic Sword". That still sounds cool, to me, anyways.
Also, I have zero idea what that headband is made of, but it looks awesome!

Any RTP that you legally own can be used in any RPG Maker that you legally own.

edit: Sorry didn't see this was already answered

However this is a product that really begs the question, why?...  Granted it's an official translation, I however did purchase 2k/3 back in the day but did use a English patch, at least I can say I didn't pirate the program...

But this is 2015, I feel a scripting system could have been added via Lua since RGSS might have posed problems...  Lua calls could have been done through the notes or comments even command if another portion of a program did not want to be done.   DynRPG did actually add this but it's still a WIP, and easily or probably could have been added to an official release if wanted.

Great that an official translation was done, but it just solves a why at this point problem...

Understatement of the year! =)
Best comment of the year :) !

Still, more should have been done then fixes that were already done and a official translation.

Could just be on steam?... I'd like to see a boxed copy just for giggles.

I believe that one of the mods confirmed that we were going to be able to purchase it from the forum store eventually, but no date was given. I really hope so....

Why? This is simply an official English release. We never promised completely revamping it. Still though, plenty has been fixed and there's even been some additions:

I'm not really sure why you feel we needed to "do more". It's an old tool people have been wanting, we fixed some bugs and gave it to them, as they've been asking for years. You're expecting additions that go out of the scope of what this is supposed to be.

Also, I merged your posts for you.

My favorite character from the RTP... Geez. That's like choosing your favorite child.

I think it'd be the Old man from People-1 (I always named him Philbert). He's used by everyone, has been

in more than one RPGM, and is seriously underapprieciated.

Whether you need some exposition, a pervy old guy, a loving grandfather, a (dastardly?) village elder, or just

someone to sit around and bark about the good ol' days, no-one does "NPC" better than Philbert.

Oh geez, Philbert! where'd your clothes go!? (was the only picture I could find)

Sorry... sorry... sorry...

I tought the RPGMaker VX Ace and all RPGMakers had the same EULA. Paranoid as I am, I'm kinda now being nervous about my Steam version of RPGMaker VX Ace and wether or not I can use it commercially too. I mean, you must have both my E-mail and Steam stuff. What about if the product was offered as a gift? o_O

I mean, I try to have all that I can as freeware or legal softwares. Especially that if I recalled right I was liking what I read in my EULA. :X

(I'm really afraid to had done a detail wrong.)

Well despite all the legal necessity. Since I am around steam it perfectly legal according to steam EULA that you technically get the license to use the product if you received as a gift. Which brings you to the RPG maker EULA which state if you got the license you can use the program. And beside they can technically see if you really own the program just by checking out your steam public profile. Unless if you set your profile to private. Seriously everyone around steam can see what game you own.

Like for a case a giveaway outside of RPG maker web which currently there one happening by a user giving away 3 free copy of the program on steamgifts. Once he give you the gift and you activate it, Steam will then grant you a license to use such program and thus RPG maker EULA will be be effective on you which you now can use it legally commercially or not.

Edit: the giveaway I mentioned is from the official degica steam account... I just recently found out about it.

(To admin and mod who control the degigame account. You should realized you can set your Steamgift account to "Developer" Status just by contacting steamgift support which allows you guys to make multiple giveaway than the current new account limit. Seriously if you guys planning to do more than 3 giveaway... But anyways thanks for doing the giveaway at steamgifts (even tho I will have a very slim chance of winning there))

I didn't even have internet in 2003. :p

By the way, I don't know what the RPG Maker 2003 Sound Effects are like but if I can and if people want, I can make an extension to the existing SFX inside of RM2k3 so people have more freedom with audio.

Staff, this would be an excellent time to start releasing Sound Packs on the store.

Yes! An engine that trully captures the late 80s and 90s RPGs!

I have waited a very long time for an official release. As soon as I found out all the others were illegal (and that's most likely why they were pretty buggy) I had to sadly move on to later engines. Although I ended up finding a really incredible replacement (XP) I really missed the 2003 engine and its wonderful graphics, but also because I spent a lot of time on it with my brother and with my father's input. When I had to let it go, I was really disappointed. But now I am extremely stoked to see this, and such an unexpected price too! I am really eager to know what was changed though. Just stability, bugs and performance or were there any substantial  updates to the engine itself, or maybe the interface?

Oh, right, anyways...! If there is not a restriction on who may enter the giveaway, I would be glad to particpate. But of course not without details!

My favorite RTP character is the Male Soldier in 2003. I think maybe it is because I have such a sentimental attachment to it (when I first started game creation I went through the characters, saw him and instantly picked him as my character to tell a story of) but whatever caused my feelings, he can't be explained why just "I like him for X". You can get a feel from the sprite that he has a story to tell, either one grand and powerful in its moral fights or maybe even an ex-soldier fighting his way to the top of the food chain (and a spot at the throne) or a man desepeately trying to protect his land and family from a thread. For me he showed promise as a knight/soldier looking for redemption to actions he took for his king...or, rather, something very close to those lines (no spoilers as I intend to finish what I had once abandoned). Plus, he had a really cool armor design—that looked like it had some Samurai inspirations—complete with an unqiue helmet (fun fact: I actually thought he had horns when I first saw him hahaha). :thumbsup-right:

Picture (this was a screenshot I took when I used the engine):

Side fact: Warrior #2 from XP makes it as my second favorite RTP character.

No matter the outcome of the giveaway it is my favorite engine so one way or another I plan on adding it to my collection hopefully and using it like crazy! Thank you for releasing this engine for us, I really cannot explain my attachment to it. :)

Yes it does from what I remember. It has a first and second layer, as well as the event layer.

Yup, i would have been ecstatic to get just RM2K3 released exactly as it was--but the little fixes are really great.

I think the biggest quality of life fix was the color coded event page stuff. Trying to make a CBS with monotone event code was so aggravating. This is helping out a ton with organization. Also the picture/variable limit is awesome. Making a CBS/CMS before was very taxing trying to perfectly allocate all 20 picture slots.

Okay, here goes. My favorite RTP character will have to be: Evil Bottom left (Shown below RPG Maker VX Ace). In one of the first games I created he was called Hondol he was the second-in-command bad guy, though the villains intentions were not actually evil its just that the way they went about pursuing their goal was wrong, and you had to stop them, but I digress.

He was one of the most memorable enemies I'd ever created you could relate to him, and he would almost always appear in the most unexpected place trying to thwart your mission. (He even had his own theme, which pretty much meant: Oh Sh!t its that B@stard!) This is one of the reasons he is my favorite, along with the cool artwork ^^. Plus he looks like he is calm and calculating , making him a unique character for me.

Now I bid you adieu, for you see I have armies to forge, characters to create, mountains to move, ale to drink, and worlds to conquer... okay a bit far there, but you know what I mean.
