I'd never use it but I'd buy it just to own the full set.

Good question.

Two reasons:
RPG Maker 95 never had an official English release, so it would need to be translated officially for one thing.

The most important reason (in my opinion):
RPG Maker 95 doesn't run very nicely on modern versions of Windows, you need to reduce desktop colour depth and do all sorts of compatibility settings - the games themselves run with colour distortions too so it's a really bad experience in general. RPG Maker 95 was made for 16 bit palette colours, not our modern GPU-accelerated true-colour displays.

Is it worth digging up the source code (which could very well be completely lost) for such an old program just to modernise it when the newer RPG Makers are just so much better in every conceivable way?

I can see some argument for writing a new, modern run-time client for games produced with RPG Maker 95 due to the compatibility issues mentioned above, but I literally only have 1 RPG Maker 95 project on my hard drive and frankly if you own a game made with that engine then you're the type of person who would jump through the compatibility hoops to get it running (95 games generally aren't very good quality - this is anecdotal but I doubt the general market would receive games made with RM95 very well at all).

I wouldn't buy it even for the completion. The resources are incompatible even with the 2k3 style and there is too much hassle around the maker itself.

The real question is: will they port PS1 RPG Maker to Linux?

Funny enough, someone posted about it on Reddit just few hours ago that they'd want to use RPG Maker 95 and try running it on actual Windows 98.

So clearly there would be people that would buy it as a curiousity. It could be totally broken and barely usable and people would probably still buy it, I know I would.

That would be me! im gonna try it on a real 98 PC (and probably win2k as well)

I found the VALUE! edition which is compatible with windows 2000 (NT kernel) as well.. (WINXP should work fine too id assume..)

silicaandpina - you bought sim RM95 value, not RM95 value - this is other programs.

I not prefer RM95 value - this has bug with more events on map - "if you make your game with value version of rpg maker and have a lot of events on one map (~>100) you can lost all events on this map. This bug is strange, for example I save often and copy my event file and always make this same things - and always this bug corrupt my event file in this same moments... I think that this bug is very hard to repair, so version value should use only for compress you game data. Another reason is lack of "common events" in this version."

Normal RM95 version with update to 1.23: https://tkool.jp/support/download/rpg95/update - work OK in new windows, only is problem with magic and item database (this is only repaired with update to value version), and setup movement options (repaired in uptade to value and in piracy english RM95 version - so this is for repair without source code...)

Xilefian is right, only RM95 not use 16bit pallete, only 8bit pallete - 16 bit pallete use RM2k/3. RM95 work good in windows 7 for me, I tested this also in 8 (is good) and 10 - unfortunately is not good:

True is that in windows XP RM95 not work 100% good - yes also value version - problems with bad colors and bad text and menus appears yet in this:

RM95 have a few good games - only more is only japannese language, but in English are for example: Special S Forces, Crestfallen, Lerthule 1, Dark Matter - and the best RM95 game - Pallete (translated from Japannese): http://vgperson.com/games/palette.htm
http://vgperson.com/games/palette.htm
I today make my games in RM95 - really, this is for me very confortable - I tested (and have) all makers without MV (VX and ACE are hopeless, so MV probably also) and I finally personaly most like RM95 so I bought this from Japan because this never was oficial english version. If this will have RMweb (no sream) oficial english release I maybe buy this - only this not be a value version - for me this is worse (why? - I wrote this on rpgmaker.net). But I do not know who want buy RM95 - maybe only for resourcers - this is perfect for RMXP, VX and ACE - maybe better get alone RTP from RM95 for sell?

If who is interested about RM95 - this is thread about this on rpgmaker.net: https://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/23459/ - I am going to show things related with RM95.

I bought RPG Tsukuru on the Super Famicom just for the sake of owning it, I would do the same for 95.

Wouldn't use it nearly as much as even RPG Maker 2k though.

Wow. RM95 looks great! The graphic looks clean.
I love the music too. Somehow I feel it sounds more stylish.
The battle theme reminds me of Megaman Battle Network ost.

i got my copy of SimRPGMaker95VALUE! (why such long name?)

honestly this looks like its brand new and never been used lol.

had to set my computers locale setting to japan to get it to install and run properly..

it seems this program is used for making SRPGs (simular to fire emblem and other such games)

The CD-Rom has to be inserted in the PC to create a new project which is a bit annoying,

honestly tho i think the idea of an RPG Maker for SRPG's is pretty cool..
would like to see a SRPGMakerMV sometime maybe? xD

[mod]You guys are getting off topic. If you'd like to talk about SRPG's please start a new thread. Be aware that this is an official forum for RPG Maker so discussing competing engines is likely to get your thread closed.[/mod]

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c

To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
