Which version should I get 1.6.0 or 1.5.2 beta? And whats the difference?
1.5.2 has been released already and is no longer beta.
If you're using the Steam version, then you will automatically receive 1.5.2 (if you already have 1.6.0 you will get downgraded).
As for "which you should be using":
As long as you keep in mind that selecting tiles for event graphics will crash the editor and that moving maps around will mess up their order (and cause some of them to disappear), and if you're not afraid of messing with the .json files to work around these bugs, then 1.6.0 is not a bad choice.
Otherwise, 1.5.2 should be stable for most.
There isn't much difference between the two.
1.5.2 is pretty much 1.5.1 with Gene support.
1.6.0 seems to have better support for High DPI screens, fixes a couple of (relatively minor) 1.5.1 bugs such as context menus rendering outside the screen if your mouse is too far low, more stable save/load ingame. It also includes updates for some of the js libraries RMMV is using, which may fix some other bugs and/or improve performance.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
1.6 Has a different way of handling many things like animations and memory dump. Most plugins don't recognize the code in the right way adding to the memory dump problem. So when having a freshly made game with 1.6, go for it. If you use a lot of plugins and have created your game already, 1.5.2 will probs be better for you.
Any word on that FPLE DLC for $20? My wallet is ready.
Steam auto updated me to 1.5.2 -- a version I hadn't even realized was coming out -- and when I opened my project, all of my maps that I had been working on over the past few weeks are no longer there. I restored 1.6.0 via steam, and they are still not displaying in the editor. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE, as I've now effectively lost every nearly single thing I've done.
Seriously, I opened up the editor today after a really long, stressful day at work to find out that the project I had been looking forward to working on seems to be basically destroyed?
EDIT: I was able to restore the maps, but it required manually editing the Mapinfos.json file. This is not a good experience for users when updates happen!
@IAreMoocow If you read the 1.6 thread I think I can say that they know hahaha
I have the Windows and Steam version... for Windows it's 1.5.2 beta but on steam I see 1.5.2 Beta and 1.5.2
IS the non Steam Version also a final 1.5.2 version, or only a Beta?
Kinda confused with that.
@Archeia just to clarify; v1.5.2 is still in its beta stage? this is not a "stable" release yet?
"Change to the battle background behavior: setting it to none will not show any background for that part, including on world map"
And how do I switch the battleback now back to the default behaviour?
Thanks MV team for the quick retrofit update. I will probably wait for 1.6.1 before touching my project though to avoid too many version changes back and forth...
@UncleThomson "How do I...?" Questions go in the support forum for the engine you are using. Please start a thread for this instead of using this one.
@dbchest it is already a "stable" release. I had to move back to 1.6.0 manually few days ago
