No, they're not talking about that.
They're speaking of a first person RPG tool for MV.
Granted, it would be nice to have more tools for different things.

I'd buy it for $10 or so, but not more than that unless it had some awesome features that came with it for the full $20 on your poll. It looks fun to use and make a little game with for sure! As others have said I'd hope it would work fine without bugs or lag, or I'd skip paying for it but that should go without saying. Without reading past the first page on this thread(so sorry if this has been said) I don't see how this would effect performance much. The graphics are still 2d looking at the screenshots with a pseudo 3d effect it would be sprites, etc and not 3d models being used. The way movement works in such games would make lag not matter much anyways since you move one screen at a time. Battles of course it would matter, but it's a static background.

*edit* Just caught up on the rest of the thread, and it seems I missed the voting period unfortunately. I still voted Yes though and would like this feature :).

The mods already said folks need to stop going on about "i would rather them this" because they said we could end up with nothing.
So, can we please not go down this road again?
If you don't like the idea, okay.

Personally i love the idea depending on what they do with it.. what sort of tool it is.

By the way.. can we get an ETA on when we might hear more about this tool?
Did enough folks even vote yes?
I'm curious about what's going on behind the scenes having to do with this.

Absolutely yes. But only provided we can not only do indoor, but outdoor areas as well.

I think making a 3d labyrinth script in the same nature as Might and Magic World of Xeen would be an excellent way to implement this for the 3d perspective, of course with modern textures and graphics. Some ideas would include keeping everything (walls, sprites, etc) in 2d for ease of use and ease of creating new content, using parallaxes for the ceiling and floor (useful for outdoor maps) but also having the option to use wall and floor tiles as well (useful for indoor maps), and implementing a nice GUI maybe even similar to MM or Wizardry. Below are some screenshots from Might and Magic World of Xeen.

Yeah. Keeping it 2D, and simple, is what I'm hoping they do. It should give the illusion of 3D - nothing but smoke and mirros.

Usually with games like this the player creates the entire party of characters which is typically 3 to 6. You can sorta of event in a player based character creation system in rpg maker, but I would like something a little more robust if we're emulating the wizardry and might and magic games. Most of the latter games in both series had both a class and skill system as well as player choice of portrait and voice and sometimes other choices such as alignment. Hopefully if this gets implemented we can get more details of what comes with the package.

I voted yes, dungeon crawlers are my favorite genre of games, they're seeming simplicity masking a surprisingly deep and complicated system and open exploration being the main draw.

Go to the top of the thread, and look at the videos.
That's what they're going for... or at least that's what I am lead to believe.
I honestly hope they're not going for what you guys are suggesting.
I rather have dungeons that you move smoothly through.
I FREAKING HATE the janky frame by frame stuff from early PC RPGs.
I much prefer a smooth experience.
I get the feeling that this tool might be a bit like this system that was made for Ace.
    http://www.rgss-factory.net/2013/09/10/ace-fple-ace-first-person-labyrinth-explorer/
    Only better.
    I hope so anyhow.
Everything being suggested sounds like it's being suggested out of pure nostalgia.
I honestly rather them go for something much better than that.
Granted, I am not expecting a Legend of Grimrock level of graphics, but at the same time I would bang my head at janky "smoke and mirrors" stuttering faked first person.

I have my doubts that it'll be anything too advanced, since it will just be a simple tool for MV. Jittery movement or not, I don't think many care, people simply want to create Wizardry\pseudo-3D first person dungeon crawler style games in an easier fashion.

Besides, there's nothing wrong with games such as Lands of Lore. :)

I'm pretty sure they're not going for Lands of Lore.
You gotta remember, the folks working on this are mostly Japanese, i can promise you that what they're working on is more like that Wizardry game for 3DS that's in that video at the very top of these thread.

I doubt it's gonna be anything other than a visual\UI change for the most part. Look at the other tools being released for MV, none of them are all that sophisticated; which is a good thing, imo. I mean, a Win 95\98 screensaver is also used as an example of what to expect, so I wouldn't put too much stock in those. :p

From me, it's a yes and I would spend up to 10€ for it. :)
An amazing feature for this plugin would be, if you can use it in a way, on map1 you use basic 2D maps and for map2-5 3D maps and map6 is a normal map again. :D
Then you can do some atmospheric parts, where a 3D perspective would be more immersive and the 2D for towns and so on. :)

    Off Topic
The only thing I think they could add for MV with a patch is the 4K support because it has some map-drawing issues there. :/ (\ô/)

like i already wrote, i would bang out 30-40 bucks.
With enough features even more. I always dreamed about making games like this but ..to be honest im too stupid for Unity lol.
I really tried. i made a ballrolling game from one of theire tutorial websites and thats about it.

    Same here.
I'd like to know a bit more about what is going on behind the scenes..
Or at least if it got enough yes votes.

Depending on the implementation, it might even enable multichannel textures in the engine, which would open the possibility of normal mapping, which would make illumination plugins in the standard view awesome!

    Also: YES.
