Hello,

I am having a complex issue related to RPG Maker MV. There is a thread that is closer to this description, but this thread has been inactive for a long time.

Before I get into detail on what's happening, here are my computer specs:

Operating System: Windows 10 Education Edition (x64)

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.60GHz

RAM: 16GB

Graphics: NVDIA GeForce GTX 970M

OpenGL 4.4

I am using RPG Maker MV Version 1.3.4 (the latest) standalone.

The issue

RPG Maker MV will work upon launch and it will work for the first few interactions, however, the interface will become unresponsive after that. It will not enter a Not Responding state, but the program will not be able to be interacted with. Occasionally, if this issue occurs while trying to call a windows function like open file or save file, it will crash instead. Not even the close window feature works, meaning going to Task Manager and ending RPG Maker MV from there must be done to close it.

Troubleshooting

1. I first looked to my video driver version, however, it's up to date.

2. I checked other components to make sure they were up to date. CPU, Ports, Audio, etc. - They are up to date.

3. I checked the dates on the RPG core plugins to ensure they were up to date with RPG Maker V 1.3.4

4. I restarted my computer. This temporarily resolved the issue, but it reoccurred after a few hours, and after reopening, occurred after a few interactions.

5. I checked Resource Monitor to try to see if any resource conflicts were causing this. RPGMV.exe and the webengineprocess did not appear to have any conflicts.

6. Security Firewall is set to allow RPG Maker.

7. Created a new project. The issue occurs again after some interactions.

If you require anymore information, please let me know. These kinds of problems may be frustrating, but they also make be curious.

I heard that some USB-related devices like keyboard can cause it to crash. Do you have something like that?

I've moved this thread to Tech Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

MV support is for game development support, not for problems with the editor.

That said, the symptoms are clear as to what your cause is (especially because the problem is independent of project and restarting only temporarily solves it:

You have a background program that is blocking the access to the editor.

Since you already whitelisted the editor in your firewall, it has to be another background program, and you need to find out which other program it is.

Usual candidates are antivirus, anti-malware and parental protection programs, but it can be basically anything working in the background (for example, there is a program to automatically record let's plays on steam that is blocking the steam version of Ace)

I have a USB Keyboard attached at this time. I tried to run the program without it to see what happened. As a precaution, I also unplugged anything else in my USB ports. Unfortunately, the issue persists. An additional troubleshooting task that I tried was unplugging any additional display devices. The issue remained, even after this.

Additionally: I noticed that part of a menu from RPG Maker MV remained on top of the screen when switching windows.

Update: So far it appears that terminating a program that's associated with window management (but not a core process) may have fixed it. I will provide an update on whether it worked or not in a few days, since the issue has been known to return after a few days. I have disabled the program that may have caused the interference and will keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the support!  :)

Day 1 Update: Two programs have been found to cause interference in this situation of mine. The two programs at fault ended up being MSItruecolor.exe and NahmicMSISvc32.exe (only the 32-bit appears to cause interference). I would like to thank this thread:

... as the thread, in combination with Andar's help provided enough pointers for me to pinpoint a program that's been known to cause issues. If anyone else has a laptop similar to either of ours and wishes to run RPG Maker MV, my advice is to keep an eye on the MSI built in applications, but as always, be careful on what you terminate or remove, as some processes could be drivers that your computer needs. I will monitor RPG Maker MV for today and tomorrow and if no issues reappear, I can than consider this thread fully resolved.

It has been a few days since the issue was resolved and now that I've gone several days without issue, I can now officially say that the cause of the problem was the above interfering programs. I have had no further issues tied to an unresponsive interface. If you run into a similar problem as I have and have either of those two programs, there's a chance they could be causing the issue. If you do not have these programs, I'd take a look at built-in applications. It's not easy to trace to the program responsible without a hint or trial and error, but I hope that this thread will come in handy for anyone experiencing similar issues.

Thank you to all who helped guide me to the resolution.  :D

Summary

Issue: RPG Maker interface becomes unresponsive

Symptoms: All buttons associated with the RPG Maker interface will not do anything. The Windows Default Ding sound will play if this occurs while a subwindow is open. RPG Maker MV will crash if a windows command such as 'open' or 'save as' is called when the issue occurs.

Cause: Program interference. Applications at fault: MSItruecolor.exe and NahmicMSISvc32.exe. I believe that the second application may have played the biggest role. Terminating the first reduced how often the issue occurred, but did not completely eliminate the issue. Terminating the second had an much clearer result, because it returned RPG Maker MV into a usable state without restarting it.

I now consider my problem officially resolved.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
