When I deploy my game to the Windows Store, the plugins do not work.

I am really loving RPG Maker MV! I do however have an issue deploying to the Windows Store using Visual Studio 2017 and Cordova 6.3.1. Points to note:
  • Plugins run in RPG Maker MV 1.5 testing.
  • Plugins run in debugging using Visual Studio.
  • Plugins run on release version testing for ARM and x86 using Visual Studio.
  • Plugins run on Android version in Google Play store.
  • All software is up to date (RPG Maker MV, Visual Studio 2017, Windows 10)
  • Deploying to .exe for Windows works fine, plugins ran in that version.
  • All .js files are in UTF-8 encoding.
I found a couple of posts from someone else on this same issue but there is no answer. The internet at large (google, bing, duckduckgo, yahoo, etc.) is unaware of how to resolve this issue:

If we can resolve this together as a community I will be more than happy to put a tutorial together on how I did it start to finish. It was not actually that hard to get a game made and published using Visual Studio.

Can you post the JavaScript Console's output? Visual Studio brings it up when you run the game.

Note: this runs fine and all plugins work while debugging both the debug and release versions in Visual Studio. Thanks for checking into this!

The Debug errors show that files are missing. Can you delete the js folder and import that folder (after you deploy the game) back to the Visual Studio project? If those files are already there, you also try rebuilding the project.

Very fast response! I'll try this tonight after I get back home from work. This was inevitable since I figured it was time to start different projects for different platforms.

I meant rebuilding the solution (Build -> Rebuild Solution).

I have an update.

I created a new VS project and imported the game into it with no changes to any VS config files and built a release package. That release package worked in my environment. Of course the package won't upload to MS Dev Center until you change the config to match your info. So I changed the config.xml, rebuilt the packages and tested in my environment. It no longer worked. Something in my config.xml is apparently causing this issue.

  • Deleted project completely, started from scratch.
  • Imported freshly deployed www files.
  • Confirmed project files are version 1.5.0 in js folder.
  • Google searched "read failed: Could not find file" to no avail.
  • Google searched "JavaScript runtime error: Unable to get property 'handleEvent' of undefined or null reference" to no avail.
  • I am completely stumped.

The could not find file error is shown when the files are missing. Check the js\lib folder using the Solution Explorer and copy over the files that are missing.

you can ignore the pixi.js.map errors, the important error is the one after that (the map files are for debugging purposes only, they aren't needed for the program itself)

I'm not in front of my PC right now but I recall that line 306. It was a passive event listener. The comments described it as something for determining whether a browser could handle passive events.

Could this all be something as simple as Visual Studio not having read/write permissions in that js folder, or would that kick out a different error?

I know this is a while ago but Microsoft debugged the error in my code and the bug is gone.

HOWEVER

This did not fix my issue, I am still getting no plugins to run in the final release build for x86 / ARM / x64 from Visual Studio even though in VS testing the plugins run fine. Also still runs fine on release version for Android.

Probably I need a new post but I wanted to close the loop somewhat here. Basically TL DR there is no fix for this issue.

The only thing I can think of as a temporal workaround is to make a separate WinJS project. It worked for me 100% well on my side (although there are a few issues).

Great tip, I will study on WinJS as a potential new way to package my game. I have not been telling anyone about this game because I am not proud of how buggy it is on Windows, yet people are still buying it! I am motivated and if I get stumped enough my plan is just to pay a fee to someone to fix this.

I know, that's not ideal. But I'm really motivated like I said :o

Ok wow, I figured it out. When I run the windows certification kit, it errors out using the default file encoding on RPG Maker's .js files from the export. So I changed all the encoding to UTF8 as recommended. Of course this passes windows certification, but it BREAKS the game's ability to use plugins. Strange? Yes. I'm investigating. Any ideas here? @AceOfAces_Mod @Andar

Any idea how we can get the plugins to run when encoded in UTF8? This is when using either cordova or WinJS wrapper. It doesn't matter either way, they both act the same. Are we going to have to stop supporting the Windows UWP platform?

The only thing I can think of is copy clean copies of the files over to the project. I have no idea why it still happens (and I recall I was able to convert it over to UWP with both WinJS and Cordova). Was the UTF-8 conversion done with an error?
