I'm experiencing this issue on Ubuntu 18.04 while running a purchased copy of RPG Maker MV through Steam.
  • Are you using plugins? Did you disable them first? Does the bug still happen? Then report here.
Yes, Yes, Yes.
  • Is your bug already reported by another person? Don't make a new topic. Reply to that thread instead if you have anything substantial to add.
I'm going to go with a "no" here...
  • Bug Explanation: (What is the bug in your own words? Keep this detailed. "It isn't working right" is not a valid bug report.)
When I attempt to edit a plugin from the plugin manager, RPG Maker freezes my entire computer. It doesn't always happen, but most of the time it does. This seems to be happening specifically when I try to edit a plugin called BBS_TermWindow, but the freezing has happened when trying to edit other plugins as well.
  • Error Report: (If you received an error message, press F8 when the message is received to open up the debug console, then copy/paste the entire error log and paste it here).
This isn't an error message from RPG Maker MV (since it is the application itself crashing), but my system logs (in /var/logs/syslog) show some interesting messages:
HTML:

Jan 31 20:18:54 chiger gnome-shell[1542]: Some code accessed the property 'WindowPreviewMenu' on the module 'windowPreview'. That property was defined with 'let' or 'const' inside the module. • Exact Steps on How to Replicate Bug: (Write out IN DETAIL, a step-by-step guide on how to replicate the bug.)
  1. Open RGP Maker MV
  2. Click on the Plugin Manager icon on the toolbar.
  3. If BBS_TermWindow is not installed, add it.
  4. Double click the plugin name or right-click and select "Edit...".
  5. If it doesn't freeze on step 4, close the window that popped up, and repeat step 4.
Following those steps results in a complete freeze of the desktop (eventually) every time. I was able to ssh into my computer from a different computer and kill the RPG Maker process through a terminal. Looking at htop, it seems RPG Maker suddenly hogs 100% of a CPU core when the bug occurs, which freezes the UI thread, but allows me to still do things through an ssh connection.

  • Sample Project (REQUIRED): A sample project MUST be attached to the bug report. All steps MUST be followed. If a single step is ignored, the bug report is invalid and I will move on to the next bug report. If you do not attach a sample project to the bug report, your bug report WILL BE ignored. This must be kept under 90 MB lower. Do not include RTP Graphics save for the ones used. You must make this project as small as possible. There are NO exceptions.
I tested this with a brand new blank project. The only thing that needs to be added is the BBS_TermWindow plugin which can be found here.

I'll note that the plugin requires YEP_MessageCore. However, with or without it, I'm still experiencing crashes, and this issue has to do with RPG Maker and not a specific plugin in and of itself. Based on the error logs I found, I'm guessing this has to do with RPG Maker's management of pop up windows or dialog boxes or something of that nature.

Thanks in advance for the help!

A small update:
Disabling my graphics card seems to prevent this bug from occurring. I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 and have the most recent Nouveau display driver installed.

Hmm.... So I can use my quick ports of QPlugins, but QMovement breaks MZ's save system. Or I can use the Luna port of the QPlugins whose QMap breaks MZ's save system. I can't decide I want to fix one of those, or just make a new save system. The new one would look so much better.. I'm kind of tempted. :LZSexcite:
