Hello there,

These last few days I've been having a blast toying with this engine and decided to make my first game (or die in the attempt :p).

I have already completed all tutorials and, although they've been extremely useful to explain me the absolute basics, I feel a bit overwhelmed when I contemplate the game process as a whole.

So far I have set a basic narrative and started making my world map (currently half of it), which I will fill after with more stuff. But maybe I'm starting the house by the roof, complicating myself unnecesarily.

With this in mind, as far more experienced users I'd like your opinion about how a rookie like myself should start developing a game in RPG Maker. I hope your tips will give me some insight regarding this matter.

Thanks for your time.

One of the most common pieces of advice you're going to get is to not try to make your actual dream game first.

Make a simple, short game where you're practicing how to use the things you've done in tutorials.

The king's watch has been stolen, so you need to buy a new sword, leave the castle, walk to the cave, slay the dragon, and get the watch back.

That will help you to understand how the default combat system works and you'll practice creating a variety of events to transfer, start battles, use variables or switches to keep track of the quest, and have story cutscenes. And, of course, figure out some basic mapping.

I think first things first: Plan what you want the game to be... At the very least the basics, like narrative beats and mechanics you want to implement. It's A lot smother than flying by the seat of your pants (like me :rswt ).

For additional practice I recommend following some user made tutorials to ease into more complex eventing. The stuff on the official blog (They're written for MZ, but most can be replicated in MV), stuff in the tutorials section here, and videos on YouTube.

Hmmm. Final is For general game dev stuff: Research your favorite games/ the types of games you want to make! Analyze how and why they do xyz? Why do you feel it does a good job at xyz or what do you feel would work better instead?

I will follow your advice before throwing myself to the pool. The best part of this is that everything I do helps me understand better the process through mere practice, which is always positive.

I will start with something small and who knows? Maybe I can re-use some of it for the actual game.

Thanks for your time guys

so I had two plugin that essentially overwrite each other depending on where they are in the list. so I had to edit what was overwriting one into the other and now they both work. I REALLY need to sit down and just learn JavaScript. I hate that I know just enough to know I don't know NEARLY enough lol.
The Open Hand scandal got even more spicy. The Completionist streamer Jirard made a video response and tossed a bunch of links and documents, but apparently none of it actually addressed why donations he collected sat for 10 years (way too long to justify). He also seemed to threaten defamation suits vs. people for what amounts to pointing out publicly available records. The IRS should definitely audit.
My next update is going to amazing! There's been major additions and things I've wanted to do in previous versions that weren't possible until now. It's not ready yet, but will be soon!
made an RTP edit to try to save on work, found out I was editing the wrong tilesheet of cliffs.
It's fine... I'm fine... I'm sure fixing this won't take too long
Proud of the work done.
