Hello, there. For the last couple of days I noticed that, for no reason at all, my RPG Maker MV would randomly stop working and not respond and I sometimes I would have to restart my laptop to even use it again. Other times, I have to close it via Task Manager and be able to use it for only a short manner of time.

So far, this has happened 3 out of 4 projects I've made to play around with RPG Maker MV. The only project that this doesn't happen to is the 3rd project but it doesn't make any sense as to why this one is not affected like the rest since it uses the same plugins and graphics from the 1st and 2nd project. I thought I was fine to mess around with another project idea but the issue came back with the 4th project.

There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason, that I am aware of, that causes this issue. I get it when naming an item, using the character generator, or even hitting the save button. And more often than not, when the issue happens, the data isn't saved. Leaving me to have to redo it all over.

I read through other topics that have had issues to RPG Maker MV crashing, but unless I missed it, I have not seen one about this particular problem I am having. My drivers are up-to-date, I installed the 1.0.1 version of RPG Maker MV, and I am running on Windows 7 Home Edition. I was having this problem before the 1.0.1 version and it persist til even now after the update.

I apologize if I have not provided enough information, but I have no idea what is causing this problem. It literally is random with the exception that once it first starts, it becomes somewhat more frequent in not responding. Sometimes I would go for 3-4 hours before MV decides to not respond or I can go 5 minutes.

Oh, one last bit of information. I say last couple of days, but I don't actually know when it started doing this as I only used RPG Maker MV for around 3-4 hours when it just came out due to a favorite MMORPG of mine and my friends play got it's expansion released at the same day. So, it could've been like this from the beginning of me received RPG Maker MV and I could not have noticed. Sorry if this part sounds irrelevant. XD

If the editor crashes randomly, then in 99% of all cases it's either a damaged file (of MV or of Windows) or a conflict with one of the background programs running on your computer.

It would be extremely strange if this happens due to a project (it could be a damaged file in one project, but unlikely in several projects).

Have you tried reinstalling RMMV? If that doesn't help, start looking at your background programs, especially antivirus or access protection programs.

Are you running the standalone version or the Steam version? If steam, do you have it set to back up on steam cloud? That could cause some issues - and might also explain why it happens consistently with some projects but not others.

It happens on both the Standalone and the Steam version. Also, I have reinstalled RPG Maker MV for the 3rd time and it is working fine since then, for now. The problem is, it just seems to happen randomly and I never know when it will act up again. What puzzle me is my third project has yet to encounter this issue and still remains perfectly fine.

I am gonna try and give it the rest of the day to see if it will act up again. I feel like to spite me, since I finally asked for help, that it is acting normally at the moment. oTL

1. Do you think it might be the operating system? Windows 7 is pretty old as awesomely stable as it is.

2. Also try updating .NET, don't ask me why XD that seems to fix things like that.

3. Make sure you also have a good look at your startup files!

4. Also make sure your ram cards are functional, erm... I can't remember how to look that up since I haven't done it in a long time, but there are programs that will tell you. Google is my best friend. If one of your ram cards is a little corrupt it may cause the memory to overload and make things stop responding.

To be honest I'm really not much of a tech XD but I'm just throwing out some ideas.

Yeah, the problem happened again after working completely fine for a good, long while.

@Kelphy

1. I don't know, you think it could be? I have had this laptop for 4 years, going on 5 soon.

2. I tried looking up how to do this and I think I am doing something wrong because I need to update mine but it won't update. I could be doing something or downloading the wrong .NET stuff. oTL

3. Not sure what to look for to cause issues with RPG Maker MV in those.

4. Me neither. I don't know how to look and see if that is also an issue nor am I a tech guy. I feel like I even don't do all the basic stuff a person who owns a laptop should do.

As said above, this is most likely caused by background functions like access restrictions that you have running.

So the first step to help is that you have to tell us what programs and functions you have running (the names of the programs).

For example there is one antivirus suite that is known to blacklist RM randomly (blocking its execution), and if you are using that antivirus program you need to whitelist RM manually to prevent that.

When the software doesn't respond periodically (eg non-responsive), that is a GPU issue. For example, if I leave MV open but update the graphics driver, it CRASHes MV.

When it appears to just pause, but is otherwise responsive, that is a memory issue.

I'd not recommend using MV on a system with less than 2GB of ram.

Sorry that if this is gonna sound... stupid, but I am unaware to check to see how much background programs I am running. All I know is I am using Avast as my anti-virus program and I have 6GB of RAM on my laptop. For drivers I have Intel® HD Graphics Family and NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M. Both of which are up-to-date.

I apologize for not being technical savy to know what else I should share or where to see these other background programs. X_x

Go to windows system properties, there should be an icon for "programs" or "software" where you can deinstall programs (don't know how it is named in your language).

Don't deinstall anything, but if you open it you'll get a list of all programs installed.

If you can give us that list, we can check if there is any program that might interfere - no guarantees as no one can know every program, but it could help finding the cause.
