So it's been a LOOOONG time since I participated here but this new MV maker has me excited.. I spent months on my still in development VX Ace game and at some stage, when my son is a bit older, I'd like to continue on.. is MV going to allow import of VX Ace projects, does anyone know?

I will also assume that it means no hidden Modules - that Audio, Graphics, etc. will all be open to editing, should the need arise?
There always will be some hidden stuff. It depends on the implementation and what you want to edit. That's all that can be safely said at the moment.

Yeah, but they're not likely to have 15 actors in the database.
Well, the database supports 2000 entries now. Why not do that to showcase that great new feature? :p

No. Not unless someone writes a script to do it, and even then it'll only be a partial conversion.

You are completely right. Never even considered it. ;)

If you want to port your project it will have to be hand done as there's probably to many differences between ace and mv, seriously what does MV stand for?!?!

And now a short moment of silence, as the 4 months of waiting are upon us!

Alright time to pull an Eric Cartman as I don't want to wait 4-5 months!

why are you guys so crazy about porting your vxa games to rmmv

i mean come on we're at least half a year away from it.

by then you should have finished your current project(s) and started something new, designed with the new engine in mind.

People don't want to have to start a project over and yet still use a shiny new software whether or not it will actually be better for them in the long run.

Just saying this because it's been mentioned before. RPG Maker never was backwards compatible and it never will be. EB is not that kind.

Either finish your projects in your current Maker, or start over. I know one person who's stuck with RM2k3 through XP, VX, and VXA. I call them crazy, but it's just what they preferred.

My goodness, so much awesomeness! Pretty sure my ticket for the hype train has now officially been purchased. Right off the bat, the news that we would have more mapping layers and built-in sideview battle support had me more or less sold, but I was a little worried about the implications for all the hard work done by our resident community creators - I just recently got back into RPGM after a huge hiatus, and just picked up both Ancient Dungeons and Pixel Myth. it's nice to hear that apparently, the move to 48x48 won't just immediately render all of those resources (along with the rest of the gigantic glut of VX/Ace resources that have been created over the years) obsolete.

That said, all of the tidbits of info that have been dropped in this thread have made MV even more exciting! Can't wait to check it out. Strangely, I find also that the news of a new maker with all this potential has me feeling more motivated to really try and make something in Ace finally. Just general RPGM excitement bleed-over I guess! :D

ooh! I will have to redo my Lazy Tilesets scripts. I think they, although fairly small and simple, are probably the most useful to the community of all the scripts I've created.

Unless someone on the inside has already done it in preparation - or the new engine comes with the ability to import/export tile settings.

I think I've read it stands for multi version or sth. like that. But what does VX stand for?
I'm guessing XP stands for experience since well Windows XP and all.

I will definitely be looking for a way to transfer my almost-complete project onto MV. And I'm sure there are a few others who will give it a go as well. It's not going to be possible for a complete transition - scripts, for instance, would have to be re-written completely - but if I get 80-90% of the maps and events, I won't mind doing a bit of manual work to tidy things up ;)
Absolutely! Here's need for that! :) Feel encouraged!

It would be nice if you could just take an existing project and throw mobile support at it.

Assuming the project was designed for mobile in the first place, which they probably won't be.

A re-make of the project would be just as feasible: export as much as you can, and then fill in the rest of the details in the new engine.

For those that are using frameworks such as external text and whatnot, those would be much easier to port over since they are not dependent on the game.

Porting graphics over may be easier depending on how the project is designed.

Nope, it comes winter 2015. That's right around the corner. Soon enough to drain VX Ace game makers from all their motivation to finish their game. :p Well done!

The whole Javascript thingy looks like you can custom your own game mechanics in Game Maker. So if I want to make an action game, that should be possible, right? BD

If somebody makes it... :p

For English?

It's already Winter 2015 where I am :)

Game Maker? Different engine, different company.

RPG Maker is still an RPG maker. If you want to make a game of a different genre, yes, you MAY be able to do it with RPG Maker, but there could be other engines out there that would be more suitable.

made an RTP edit to try to save on work, found out I was editing the wrong tilesheet of cliffs.
It's fine... I'm fine... I'm sure fixing this won't take too long
Proud of the work done.

I've always found Game Over screens to be a bit boring. Mostly because I see them too often.
Tried to mix it up for the jam.
