About material not being available outside the engine, like the RTP used to be, meaning you have to buy the engine in order to get the templates and pieces. I may not ever put out any games, but I do like making resources to share with people. Now I'm going to have to shell out cash to be able to help people get resources for their games?

I, don't really want to get too into the subject, but I have a lot to say that a lot of people don't really care or want to hear.

But woo-hoo new maker yay
We still haven't heard if there would be a Lite/trial/free version or not, so it might be worth just waiting a bit longer and seeing. I hope you keep up your work either way because I'm a fan of the stuff you've uploaded in the past.

Can you share how big the sci-fi part of the resources is? Is it as big as the fantasy section?

So it's better to buy here not on steam because you get both...?
Yes.  If you buy on steam you will only get the steam copy.  You'll still get all the preorder bonuses though, so if you don't want a non-steam version it might work best for you.

Nah, a Non-Steam version would be nice. Steam keeps being annoying. :p

You don't.
I disagree. If you're a tiler, you use Tiled to make a simple map and see how it looks. If you make landscape objects or you're a character creator, you test your stuff against one of the screenshots available or grab screenshots from the demo game.

Glad to see they found some good inspiration for server tiles =]

HAHAHAHAHAHA
Yeah. The sci-fi\modern stuff is looking fantastic. Have you seen the cat on a space station MV game? It's linked on the Steam forum. It shows off a bunch more sci-fi\modern resources. From what I saw, there were: office type tiles, modern shop tiles, cafeteria looking tiles, and even weird cyberspace walls. Looked great!

So this is going to be download only? No box copy?

I don't know, that sounds kind of.... cheap.

Ok, bring on the flames and hate because I dared to say it.

If you ask me, and I know you didn't, this is the best choice they could've done. I know Touchfuzzy is a hoarder and he would've loved to stuff his house with boxes, but trust me, it is better for them as a business.

Oh, and it appears that the coding language is done in JavaScript. Not sure why they changed it, no problem for me as I know JavaScript, but it seems like a big you know what to all the people who learned Ruby just for VX Ace.

Sure hope this is actually something new, and not just VX Ace with a new coding language and a bunch of codes and stuff packed in that were already available for Ace.

Can you link this? I'm not seeing it in the Steam forums, but I'm also just skimming topic titles and may be missing the obvious.

Speak for yourself. I find it rather convenient to have a box copy with the actual activation code on it in case something happens to your computer and you have to reload. If you want a DL version, then fine, that should have been a separate option for those who chose it. I on the other hand would rather have shelled out an extra $30 to have a box copy in my hand in case I needed it rather than go through a bunch of BS to get it again in case I lost the original DL.

Doing it the way they did it is just cheap, to save them money, not make things easy for you.

For those of us who are organized and don't leave stuff just thrown about, one extra small box isn't that big of a deal.

You get a code when you buy a digital copy.  You could print the page out and burn a disk if you need it to be physical and with the last few makers you could download the trial version and use the code if you lost the install.

You obviously missed the joke with the boxes, and I'm not going to bother explaining. However, and I've mentioned this a couple dozen times, as for the whole business part and feeling "cheap", yeah. It is. And it's better for THEM as a business. I never said anything about the end user. It's an intelligent and profittable logistic for them to do digital only.

I applaud them.

EDIT:

Oh, and if later down the road, they come up with a hard copy (limited edition, deluxe, anniversary, whatever), I will laugh because obviously those who already bought a digital and feel the urge to have a hard copy will probably buy again. And I would applaud them again for being an intelligent business.

I can't find it now, either. Looks like the topic was removed. I tried the direct link to the embedded demo and it can no longer be found. I guess they (Moon Books) took it down. Wish I took screenshots of it, now. :( I can give you the link if you want, but there's really not much point anymore.

@BlueRooster:

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I understand that it's better for the company to go digital, but for us who buy their product? Big no for me. If my pc will crash, or I'll decide to buy a new one, I'm expected to rebuy my previous owned program(s).

I do understand that if we'd be able to get a free copy back after pc switching, a lot of people would take advantage of that system. If we'd only get some kind of code after purchasing the product(s). Ah well, people would still be able to take advantage from that (giving their codes to friends etc.)...

If you purchase through steam, its tied to your account forever. If you need to reinstall, just tell steam to reinstall.

If its bought through us, just reinstall the software and put in the key that you were given when you ordered. If you lost your key, send us an email through support and we will look up your key. (also you should be able to find it by just logging in to your account).

I don't know about you guys, but I've never lost a Steam game, but I sure have lost who knows how many PC games while moving >_> . "Oops, lost the paper with the install code on it. There is no record with the company anywhere of me buying it, so customer support can't help me. Have to rebuy it now".

Its HARDER to lose a digital copy than a physical one.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
