What I meant was, does she has more sideview sprites than the other characters? How do you visualize this fighting style?
All characters have the same number of sideview sprites. You can see this in the character generator too.

Not sure if it's been said, but one thing I noticed in the event commands editor, is that it seems like there are a lot more colors used for the text of the commands. I like this as hopefully it will be easier to sort out switches from variables, or whatever, at a glance. And I will admit, I kinda skimmed the video, so I don't know what colors are for what... but I just noticed that.

Also, as for the graphics, they seem to have a brighter color palette than Ace, which I really, really like.

I like that there's now scrolling text. There seemed to be more text effects in general. There's also the profile change with the engine.

That's why I forgot. I've dabbled in 2K3 last time. I'll miss the retro feel of it, but who is to say that I can't make a tribute to RPGS at their prime even with modern 2D graphics?

What about 2k/3? :o

jk, theyre old.
I tested 2k3 right before posting. It also has scrolling text.

A little odd for XP to take a step back with dialog, I might say.

Yeah, they always doing something odd like that.

Especially the way how they removed map layers in VX ACE,,, Man it was hard to make good looking maps with ACE without parallaxing.

It wasn't that hard. Well crafted editor maps can look awesome. They just wont have all of the clutter and fancy blending parallax maps tend to have.

It wasn't so much the two layers that affected me, more that changing the tile on the bottom layer deleted the tile on the top layer so you'd have to find it again.

Just a note about that video ... the guy said he hasn't used RPG Maker in 10 years.  So a LOT of the stuff that's in MV and was also in Ace, VX and XP is new to him.  He did not necessarily focus on, or even mention, a lot of the new stuff in MV.

I think he did a really good job with the video, but it would be of more interest to an audience who were new to RPG Maker (like his YT audience), than to our members here, who are more interested in the differences between previous makers and the new one.

Don't think everything you see in the video is everything there is to MV :)

This is definitely true. There is A LOT of neat things in MV.

But it does feel a lot like Ace to me. It's more of a "step up" from Ace, but not an "evolution" of Ace.

I've been using RPG Maker since RM2k back when Don Miguel was active (and subsequently sued). Through the years, I've used every version and honestly I'd say that just from what we've seen so far, MV is the biggest leap since 2k3 into XP. As in, pretty monumental as far as new features, customization, and ease-of-use. Maybe the user base is just hard to please, but in my opinion, it's pretty hard to call MV just an incremental upgrade of VXA.

This gives me hope. :) I mean, I was hyped for MV anyway, but that video WAS a little let-down, since it didn't showcase that much new stuff.

if you could choose any reasonable feature to be implemented in MV that wasn't (from what we've seen so far), what would it be? What would your dream RPG Maker look like?
That would get this thread WAY off topic, and there is already a Suggestions for the next RPG Maker thread (which I think has been locked since MV was announced).

To be fair... that's how almost every maker feels like. 2k is improving 95. 2k3 improves 2k. VX improves 2k3. Ace improves VX. Finally MV improves Ace.

The only huge oddball in this is XP. As stated earlier it kind of took a few steps back on things like dialog, there's no scrolling text or face graphics. Of course, Enterbrain probably felt they could get away with it since XP was the one to introduce RGSS, which to me is the biggest thing in RPG Maker history. With RGSS, XP was able to blow 2k and 2k3 out of the water with overall potential.

I guess a lot of the hate of MV on steam is because they are expecting as big of a leap from 2k3 to XP if not bigger, but honestly it's just not needed.

This is quite a huge leap IMO.

If you don't believe me, open the preorder page on your tablet. Your mind will explode :p

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
