RPG Maker MV won't start on linux

I'm trying to run RPG Maker MV (Steam version) on Ubuntu. It installed, but won't start after clicking the button on the Steam library. I'm used to knowing what the hell went wrong when a program won't run on ubuntu, but Steam doesn't return any error, so I have no idea if I'm missing libraries and what they would be.
A quick search of the forum hasn't returned anything I could use. Should I be running this program on wine, even though the Steam page boasted linux compatibility?

I have it working on my desktop, but not my laptop.
I had to close and restart steam after doing a system update, steam also updated, and allowed RMMV to run successfully.
Also, if you are running a Qt dependent desktop environment, that can conflict with the shared libraries.

Please share some system information so we can get to the bottom of this, if the above did not help.
