I imagine there will be, but has it been stated if MZ will offer free trials like previous RPG Makers?
Most likely, yes. I imagine there's going to be a trial available as soon as MZ comes out.

There's something about the MV chibis that were very off-putting - I think it was the overly large head and possibly the size and style of the eyes. It's a little more forgiving on the character sprites, especially since there are ways to compensate (adding in eyebrows in the generator really helped, I found), but the SV Actors looked so samey and even a middle-aged character had the face of a teenager in battle.

VX Ace did chibi the right way - the sprites look very classic fantasy, but in a very adaptive and neutral style - suited for lighthearted and more serious games alike.

Based on what we see in MZ, unfortunately the chibi-heavy style is still governing the direction of rpgmaker - but it seems improved in MZ. The characters look a bit better (haven't seen / looked closely enough of the sv actor versions though) and even the monsters are improved - they don't all have silly smiles and cutesy expressions.

Awwh. I wuv those lil' chibis so muchlies! Their wide eyes, and their wittle button noses are just so cute. <3

I have a bunch of face parts and alt-SV heads I use to get more unique looking sprites, though. I think it was @whtdragon that created a whole bunch of different chibi heads with various expressions you can use. Head swapping is fun!

The amount of resources can still be bigger than MV's even if the whole resource size is lower.

M4A audio files were used for mobile export. I think they said now OGG works for that too, but I can't really say what's the technical reason.
This. There are more resources, but it still takes up way less size. The pngs are more optimized, the battle animations take up WAAAAY less space than the old sprite sheets, and not having to have duplicate files for audio.

Between all the optimizations, a freshly made project is close to around 100MB or so iirc. (I am on my phone not on my PC so I can't check)

It reads as the Trinity Pack can be picked up on August 20th as a stand-alone DLC; what price is it, and is it going to be on sale? (On sale for all, or only for MV users, or what prices?)

(*Fast Edit: will it be offered in a pack for MZ + Trinity Pack, just those 2, for those who don't want giant bundles with 5 packs)
@Touchfuzzy -- any information on this? I don't believe I recall seeing it answered. Thank you for your time.

@Touchfuzzy The color depth of the tileset images for MZ in the sample games have been reduced to 256 colors. I am hoping that this is not the case in the final release.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this, or if it was already asked in a prior post, but can anyone confirm if RMMZ addresses the sprite flickering issues that RMMV had?

RMMV is the only RPG Maker I've ever had this issue with, when you change character graphic, there's a single frame flicker that will happen when the program tries to load the new resource. Most of the time this can be worked around with a Preloader plugin, but even then I've had mixed results. I feel it shouldn't be necessary to use a separate plugin to preload my game assets, especially since RMXP/RMVX never had these problems.

@Touchfuzzy -- I was checking in regards to steam, as it said "N/A" under the DLC section for Trinity. I just now realized that once you click into the bundles themselves, it does list a price on steam for Trinity Pack: $34.99.

Why not give the purchaser an incentive if they want this pack? This pack costs over 50% of what an RMMV buyer pays for the MZ engine itself. There's no bundle offering RMMZ and Trinity on the steam store; that seems highly dishonorable in regards to customer-consideration.

Steam also lists the pre-purchase Promotion pricing (that's a lotta p's) up until August 27th. It makes zero mention if the MV discount is permanent or time-specific, as well as if someone gets the 10% discount by 'pre-purchasing' MZ after MZ releases (because it specifically reads as 'Special Promotion -- ends August 27th'). Pre-purchasing a game that's already released is a weird way of wording things for that 'Special Promotion -- ends August 27th'.

@Crusha

It's because the release week promotion is identical to the prepurchase promotion, so it was all put in at once?

Also, it is $35 because it is HUGE. And there is a bundle?

II don''t get the weird insults towards us, calling us "dishonorable" come from?

Seriously, I don't get the tone of your post at all, especially because you seem wrong about most of it.

Yeah, if it really does contain all of the Trinity resources, then that's a lot of stuff: sprites, facesets, busts, music (some with vocals), sounds and voice clips, battlers, tiles, etc.

I don't mind partial chibis, like the Dark Fantasy "tall" character style. In fact, I think it looks great and still captures that oldschool FF nostalgia. The standard-sized RM chibis though? They're too squat and as such, much of the details for their clothing, motions, etc is lost because of that. They're like all head.

Since MZ didn't move on from that atrocious style, I guess I just have to hope that the next RM after MZ finally does. They're easily replaceable though, so at least we have that. ;)
@Aesica, you might be interested in checking out the TAB project in my signature.
It's a generator asset base for Dark Fantasy character edits, with a second option for a slimmer head. (primarily charsets, many have facesets, no battlers)

Since RMZ is approaching, I've decided to take that as an opportunity to work with a few pixel artists on adding battlers and making it so that instead of clothing, you can choose individual parts - shoes, pants, torso, gloves, etc.) & transferring the stuff to Schlangan's new generator. It'll probably take a while to get the battlers all done though, since it's a side project (recently started working with an indie team on a commercial unreal engine game) and there aren't that many volunteers to help with spriting.

But hopefully it'll be fleshed out enough in the coming months to make tall characters an option for people who aren't comfortable with drawing them themselves.

For people here who started this thread with the passion, I discovered something: The Rising of the Shield Hero game is making by RPG Maker and made by KADOKAWA CORPORATION, but it is in Japanese.

The English Version: $15.99

@Kupotepo Yet another of the "hey guys Kadokawa is much bigger than you think" bits: Rising of Shield Hero Light Novels and Manga are published by Media Factory. Media Factory is owned by Kadokawa.

Seriously if you start paying attention to the Japanese media you consume you'll see the Kadokawa logo EVERYWHERE.

I think Kadokawa published Lollipop Chainsaw too. They have their fingers in a lot of pies.

I didn't say you specifically were dishonorable, I said the actions of not providing a bundle that has RMMZ and Trinity is dishonorable [in regards to customer consideration]. It's basically trying to pigeon-hole potential customers into buying a bundle that includes 4-6 things, which many customers simply wouldn't want. It's why I specifically asked, "will it be offered in a pack for MZ + Trinity Pack, just those 2, for those who don't want giant bundles with 5 packs".

@Touchfuzzy -- any information on this? I don't believe I recall seeing it answered. Thank you for your time.
Touchfuzzy: "I answered it earlier" ...
Touchfuzzy: And there is a bundle?

As per [that] bold text, unless my eyes deceive me the past few times I have [continuously] checked, there is indeed not a bundle that provides, as requested, RMMZ + Trinity [as 2]. That to me is extremely dishonorable. Maybe you don't agree with that, but that's what I believe to be true. Maybe some people feel dropping $145 on a bundle is normal, I don't. I think that's ridiculous.

@Crusha
Seriously, I don't get the tone of your post at all, especially because you seem wrong about most of it.
If I'm wrong about what I presented, I am going blind then. I will stand in full humility, if there is a bundle on steam, as requested, offering only RMMZ + Trinity Resource pack, that I simply don't see. Screenshot it please, so that I can immediately apologize, as nothing would make me happier than being in the wrong and coming to full humility to apologize to a respectable staff member.

Your position is that I'm wrong about most of it, yet the information I presented is correct, on steam. So, paragraph 1 of 3 is correct.

Why not give the purchaser an incentive if they want this pack? This pack costs over 50% of what an RMMV buyer pays for the MZ engine itself. There's no bundle offering RMMZ and Trinity on the steam store; that seems highly dishonorable in regards to customer-consideration.
Your position is that I'm wrong about most of it, yet the information I presented is correct, on steam. There's no pack specifically for MZ + Trinity. The cost is also over 50% of the engine itself, as I specifically stated. So, paragraph 2 of 3 is correct.

Your position is that I'm wrong about most of it, yet the information I presented is correct, on steam. There's no mention to the customer whether or not someone who owns RMMV will receive a 20% (10%+10%) discount, up until the date of August 27th. You can't pre-purchase something after it's already released; it's simply a purchase at that point. But the store lists a sale date up to August 27th, and it does not tell the customer whether that's for owning MV, or for buying ('pre-ordering') MZ, or both. I would argue, paragraph 3 of 3 is, also, correct. Yet your position is that most of what I have present is wrong. Most means the majority. If I am wrong, please point it out so I can apologize immediately. Don't just tell me I'm wrong because you disagree with me, show me where I'm wrong. I wish you well, respectable staff member.

So listening to the RTP music, anybody else feel like some of it blends well with what's on Peritune?

The graphics in that pack look absolutely beautiful, and at least similar enough to the RTP that they won't stick out like sore thumbs.

I always told my DA fans how much I hate slot machines. They're fine in games as a risk-and-reward system. But when you're spending REAL MONEY in a Vegas casino to try and hit the jackpot (which very, very few people will), it can really hurt your budget. Gambling is a bad habit, and I don't like wasting my money on a slim chance. Go to Vegas for the experience, not the jackpot.
