I'm new and have been wondering lately, could RPG Maker run on a Google Chrome software using computer. If not, could it be made so that it can?

Just curious since my bro wants to start using VX Ace but has a Google Chromebook.

Google Chrome is a new software like windows 7 etc. Would VX Ace work on it or is it only for windows xp, vista, 7, 8, etc.

The short answer is no since ChromeOS is based on Linux.

The long answer is maybe, if you can get WINE installed and working properly with Ace, which many people have tried and never really gotten that far. Most issues stem with audio more than anything else.

Wine is not a plugin?

A chromebook only runs Google Chrome, and the plugins in. the store.

Wine is a software. So you can't run Ace.

At it's core, Chrome OS is still Linux.  If one could manage to run WINE, and get Ace working with it, yes, it can.  I don't know how, exactly, the ChromeBook works, but it's Linux and WINE can run on 99% of Linux distros, even ARM-based ones (using an ARM-version of WINE of course).

I think what M3shyS means is that they want to use Ace with the Chrome Book using it's native OS. As mentioned, a Chrome Book only uses apps from the Google Play store or Chrome plugins, and therefore, as is, can NOT use Ace currently. Obviously there are ways around the Chrome OS to use the Linux kernel, but it's not easy for the average user.

So again, to quote:

The short answer is no since ChromeOS is based on Linux.

The long answer is maybe, if you can get WINE installed and working properly with Ace, which many people have tried and never really gotten that far. Most issues stem with audio more than anything else.

If you have an x86 Chromebook (the Samsung 11" chromebook and the HP 11" chromebook are ARM-based), you can run WINE on it as a compatibility layer for Windows software if you are willing to install a Linux Chroot on it, or dual-boot Linux. Both approaches require you to void your warranty, of course.

ChromeOS (and Chrome browser) are capable of using applications developed upon the Chrome API using web technologies, HTML, JavaScript, CSS. In order to get more advanced capability (such as the Ruby interpreter) on RM, you would likely have to make use of Google's native client, which isn't completely developed as of yet. This would require Enterbrain! and possibly Degica to develop more software that they might not want to, given the lack of a ChromeOS market in Japan.
