New version! Fixes an issue where A3 tilesets could not be saved.

Note: The old program had issues running on Windows 10 system that are not used for applications development. I will need feedback to determine if this issue still exists.

Introduction
The RPG Maker Tileset Builder is designed to help people arrange the tilesets that came with RPG Maker into tilesets that better suit their game. It can also take custom tileset pieces and help integrate them into completed tilesets.

Features
  • Creating/modifying RPG Maker MV tilesets
  • Creating/modifying RPG Maker VX Ace tilesets
  • Using RPG Maker XP tilesets in RPG Maker VX Ace mode
  • Saving/loading tilesets in progress for editing
Known Bugs
  • May have issues running under Windows 10
  • Black background when removing tiles from a tileset loaded in that was saved without transparency
Configuration
The Folder Manager is used to set up the RPG Maker folders. When selecting a folder, you need to select the base folder for that maker, and not any folders inside it. Refer to the pictures below.

Config01.png Config02.png Config03.png

The tileset builder is usable without configuring any of these folders, but you will be limited to the Custom MV and Custom VX Ace folders.

Custom Folders
The Custom MV and Custom VX Ace settings load off of custom tiles folders, found in the directory with the Tileset Builder application. Inside there is an AceRTP and MVRTP folder. Do not rename any of these folders. Each type of tileset has a subfolder in these, and graphics files of single tile blocks go in each. There are graphics provided in these folders as an example of what the system expects when these graphics are loaded in. There aren't many, but you can use them if you wish.

Create
From there, the program should be fairly intuitive to use - select the type of tileset you want to make, and left-click to place tiles, right click to remove them. It is important to remember that changing between MV and Ace tileset tabs will clear all tilesets.

Note: A5 and B tiles may place a large size, but right-clicking will only remove a single square.

Download
And the part everyone loves, the download! I was going to use an installer, but that didn't quite work out yet. I will post it if I get it working correctly.

Download link!

Thanks for all your hard work!

I have Windows 10, so I'll let you know if I find any bugs!

Yes it is! I hope it works out well - I didn't find any bugs, but I admit mine was not an extensive test. The only crash I managed to cause recently was when I tested out an installer and the program couldn't correctly access the settings file.

I cannot wait to test this out.

Hopefully, no bugs to report (WIn 7 32-bit)...

Nice!  You've worked long and hard on this and I'm glad to see it finally pay off :)   I'm also glad it still supports Ace tiles.

I think I already know the answer, but can I use this to extract tiles from a tileset and save them to a non-tileset sized image?  Like maybe form a 3x4 character sprite with tiles copied from a tileset?

My RPG Maker Projects and the RTP folder itself are not in the same location.

This may be why I get an error when I go to VX Ace tiles but...(that's a lot to move around...)

This works based on the default (RTP) tiles, not on your project. Everyone's RTP is the same; I have no control over what's in your project.

So, point it at your install folders, not at your project(s).

  • Using RPG Maker XP tilesets in RPG Maker VX Ace mode

Excuse me but what does "VX Ace mode" mean !? I don't really get it. It's 512x512 format, isn't it?

You can load in XP tilesets, and assuming you're creating a tileset on the VX Ace tab, you can put XP tiles on an Ace tileset.

@taarna23 I keep getting this unhandled exception error.

I have the folder options set to the correct folder...is it directory based?

I don't know what to do...I can force it to continue but it doesn't really do anything...

Does it recognize DLC files in the dlc folder?

@Reapergurl Can you show me screenshots of what folders you've directed it toward? Also, where did you put the program when you unpacked it from the zip file?

@kovak Nope, no dlc support. I do want to do that one day, but it does unfortunately fall under things I don't plan to do for free.

Correct me If I'm wrong, but for custom tilesets (MV) you need to have the tilesets pieces individually right?

I mean, If I load a full B sheet of said a PV games resources, it is not supposed to separate it in 48*48 pieces right?

Well, for one, there is no OK button. The primary things that you will need to access are all available. From what I can see, there is a small amount of the bottom cut off, but with the menu bar and save/load/clear tileset buttons visible, and the tileset selector on the left side scrollable, you should still be able to use this with the bottom part cut off. I hope that helps.

Have you tried hitting the square button in the top right to make it smaller and then adjusting it manually by dragging the sides to what fits your screen?

I have locked myself away into my Reaper dungeon. I assume this is all you'll need until I get back.
