@TheoAllen I'd like to; believe me. The sad truth is that there already aren't enough hours in the day for my existing to-do list. Additionally, your reference would require a near-complete rewrite of my code. I'm not specifically against that (code is old; I'm often amazed it's functional), but again, there's that time-in-the-day thing. Not enough of it.

The main reason I did things as I did was I found it easier to process a tileset in individual parts. Also, I didn't want it usable by folks that don't actually have RPG Maker in any given set of tiles, like the XP ones. There are potentially legal ramifications otherwise. I do want to rework things one day, but there's a lot to consider, and ease of use and legal access to materials is near the top of my list.

Hi! real quick, I was wondering... could you help me figure out how to use it? I just have a bunch of files XD and I don't know where to export them >~<.

I'm creating a new post for this, as the old post has information and comments from a much older and much different version. A clean slate seemed like a good place for this one to start.

Note: The old program had issues running on Windows 10 system that are not used for applications development. I will need feedback to determine if this issue still exists.

Introduction

The RPG Maker Tileset Builder is designed to help people arrange the tilesets that came with RPG Maker into tilesets that better suit their game. It can also take custom tileset pieces and help integrate them into completed tilesets.

Features

  • Creating/modifying RPG Maker MV tilesets

  • Creating/modifying RPG Maker VX Ace tilesets

  • Using RPG Maker XP tilesets in RPG Maker VX Ace mode

  • Saving/loading tilesets in progress for editing

Known Bugs

  • May have issues running under Windows 10

  • Black background when removing tiles from a tileset loaded in that was saved without transparency

Configuration

The Folder Manager is used to set up the RPG Maker folders. When selecting a folder, you need to select the base folder for that maker, and not any folders inside it. Refer to the pictures below.

View attachment 56746 View attachment 56747 View attachment 56748

The tileset builder is usable without configuring any of these folders, but you will be limited to the Custom MV and Custom VX Ace folders.

Custom Folders

The Custom MV and Custom VX Ace settings load off of custom tiles folders, found in the directory with the Tileset Builder application. Inside there is an AceRTP and MVRTP folder. Do not rename any of these folders. Each type of tileset has a subfolder in these, and graphics files of single tile blocks go in each. There are graphics provided in these folders as an example of what the system expects when these graphics are loaded in. There aren't many, but you can use them if you wish.

Create

From there, the program should be fairly intuitive to use - select the type of tileset you want to make, and left-click to place tiles, right click to remove them. It is important to remember that changing between MV and Ace tileset tabs will clear all tilesets.

Note: A5 and B tiles may place a large size, but right-clicking will only remove a single square.

Download

And the part everyone loves, the download! I was going to use an installer, but that didn't quite work out yet. I will post it if I get it working correctly.

Download link!

Ohhhh nevermind, I figured out how to run it, Let's ask a different question them XD... How do I add in some tilesets? like just so creations into the box so it fits well into my game? and it isn't like off? this should be the last question, I'm sorry >~<

Booniebonnie, please avoid double posting, as it is against the forum rules. You can use the "Edit" function on your posts to add additional information you've forgotten or respond to multiple people. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.

I merged your two posts. I'm not sure I understand your question, though. Are you asking how to add tilesets from RPG Maker into this program, or are you asking how to get your finished tileset from this program into RPG Maker?

Hi, Great tool! There is one issue I am having though, everything seems to work fine except Building (A3). When I save a tileset using Building (A3) I get an empty file with no data in it. All the other ones work fine but A3 creates a file that is 0kb.

Oh! Well, that's odd. I will look into it sometime this weekend!

I'm on windows 10 if that helps, but unfortunately there is no error message to show. Otherwise a fantastic tool! Thanks for making it!

@lmnop It's fine; I probably goofed something on the saving for that type of tileset. MV, Ace or both btw?

Hello, is this a virus? Because my anti-virus says it's one, and I don't know what to do.

It may trigger an antivirus - likely because it has the capability to read and write files. Literally, though, all it can do is read and write PNG files. So no, not a virus. Just an attempt to make RPG-Maker-ing easier.

What a great looking tool! I'll be experimenting with this tomorrow :) I've been looking for an easier-than-sakan way of unique-ifying my tilesets, so let's see how this tool performs for my needs ^_^

Hello, is this a virus? Because my anti-virus says it's one, and I don't know what to do.
This is the result of the so-called "heuristic" search of an anti-virus, which is basically guessing what might be a virus.

If an antivirus only looks for known viruses, it would be useless - because the most dangerous viruses are the new ones that are not yet analysed.
To compensate the AV programs look for number sequences that would be identical to tries to infect other programs and the like. But that search can result in false positives as well as detect unknown viruses - after all the same number sequence might be part of a picture and never executed at all.

So when an AV program reports a possible virus, you need to decide for yourself if that really is an infected program or if it just contains data that causes a false positive.
And you usually do that by comparing what else is on a given website or how careful it is maintained.
That is not always perfect (in fact the worse virus I ever had came from an infected antivirus on a magazine CD where it got through the protection of the production before it was identified weeks later), but it is the only thing you could do.

@Andar Thanks for all the detailed info! I hope that helps put peoples' minds at ease.

I promise I'm not up to anything nefarious with this tool! I just wanted an easier way to throw together tilesets because endless grid-bound copy-paste in GIMP was a total snooze and not leaving me feeling like I was making productive progress on my project.

The program runs in a 64-bit build of the Windows emulator ("wine") for Linux OS. Everything works perfectly. Thank you very much.

It doesn't. The only thing it can do with XP tiles is allow them to be placed on the grid for Ace tilesets.

Wow, it's almost a month since the last time I made a full-scale drawing. But I'm back to the drawing board again.

Well, I think it’s a competent enough sketch. Definitely a lot of smaller details that will get inked and the hands and feet naturally need a ton of revision (legs might be a little long too). Yes. I will also draw the second hand…I just think I’ve suffered enough, OK?

wahh, it's good to be back! A lot of stuff happened (like always lmao) but I've been extremely productive lately, so I decided to hop on back onto the forum I definitely have warm feelings to! haroo eberyoneee :kaohi:

I got encouraged to finish the piece a bit more thanks to u guys <3
I'm amazed that Capcom actually put Breath of Fire up on their 40th anniversary site. I spent so many hours fishing in that game way back when.
