Hey guys :) . I am new here, my fella actually bought me RPG maker two days ago, and I have been hard at work with it ever since...
I have watched, and read many of the tutorials, but still have a long way to go( *cough* scripting.)...

But moving on to the reason why I posted here.
I didn't want to be a newby person, and bug everyone here for something that is probably a really minor issue.... However...

It is starting to make me mad, because I can not progress with my game if I don't input this.

I made a short video with Windows Movie Maker Live. It is one minute, and twenty-four seconds long, and 5.1MBs in size.

It is also in the resolution of 640x480, and I have converted the WMV file, into a OGG Theora file via VLC.

However, I have done this numerous times, and every time I go into RPG maker to import my video from the folder

it does not show any compatible videos there.

Again, I didn't want to pester you guys, so I have looked through old posts on here (from waaay back into 2011, how I figured out VLC can convert.)

And alas, nothing has worked...

I sincerely hope that it is a minor issue, and that it will leave me looking like a goof ball head.

Thank you for anyone who responds!
Happy Programming!  :)

What a lovely, detailed help request!

Just to be clear, where are you saving the converted movie file?

(IOW, if you open your Game project files, do you see it there?)

When I convert the file to OGG, I send it to my Video Folder, where the Windows movie maker sends them.

:'( And I wish I could see it in my game project files! That means my importing has been a success.

Have you tried just dragging the file into the folder? and checking to see if the game can "see" it then?

You need to convert the videos in .OGV format and place them in the movie folder located within the directory of your game.

If the game cant find it its because of a format thing. Try .mp4 or .avi or... Just try another : p

Sorry for taking so long to respond.. I may have fallen asleep ( literally spent all night trying to figure this out.)
Here are the formats that I have converted this movie into, and the RPG maker still won't "see" it in my video folder so I can import it.

Video- Theora + Vorbis (OGG)
Video- H.264 + MP3 (MP4)

Video- H.264 + MP3 (TS)

------------------------------------

I did try your suggestion of dragging the movie into the movie folder directly, alas, no luck, I had the error circle... The whole " Go past Go, do not collect 200 dollars" thing.
------------------------------------

Going to try these next formats, and see if they work, will update in a few minutes on the result(s).

Video- VP80 + Vorbis (Webm)

Video- Theora + Flac (OGG)

Video- WMV + WMA (ASF)

-------------------------------------
Update: Neither of the above have worked.

You need to convert the videos in .OGV format and place them in the movie folder located within the directory of your game.

Does anyone know by chance, of a different program that can convert files into this format?
Reason why I stuck with VLC, was because I saw a youtube video of it working

We need some more info from you, and it should be detailed infos.

1) what is the filename of the movie you're trying to import, including the file ending/type?

2) If you copy that file directly to the project's movie folder, what happens when you use the event command "play movie"?

If there is an error message, please give a screenshot of the error message.

Ace uses OGV files.

Would you mind please not using an italic font for your whole post? It's nice to have pretty posts and all, but it's more important for them to be easy to read.

:Note: I don't know how to do the spoiler thing, so I am sorry for the scrolling that you must do :(

File Name, Type, & Location: Remnant, VLC Media File (.ogg), Users-Che***********-My Videos.  :Side note: The file was converted from WMV, to an OGG with Theora, and Vorbis checked.
Here is a screenshot of where it is located.

What it looks like when I try to import the file.

What it looks like when I try to add a file to the project, via winrar.

What it looks like when I have dragged, and dropped the movie directly in.

What it looks like when I am on RPG Maker, trying to find the movie.

What the game file looks like after attempting to use the movie.

I hope this is enough information for you to distinguish, what the problem is.

*edit* Sorry for the italics!

You've already been told what the problem is, by several people.

Your movie must be in OGV format. OGG is not OGV.

I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish with WinRAR. To add it to the project, you just drop it into the project's Movies folders, or you import it using the Resource Manager. You don't use WinRAR for anything to do with RPG Maker, unless you're GETTING resources from someone and they're archived in a file.

To use spoilers, you do this:

Code:
[spoiler]spoilered stuff goes here[/spoiler]

Thanks, I had noticed the OGV mentioned before, and had looked for a OGV converter program. But every time I googled for it, it always popped up with OGG.

As for the winrar, I thought I could go into the project files(outside of RPG maker.) and manually add it that way.

But thank you everyone for helping, sorry for not catching on quickly that it was needed as an OGV format, guess I was a little confused.

Now I am off to find a ogv converter :D !

If one of the moderators may close this thread, it would be great!
