Okay this has started to happen a while ago, the entire program goes unresponsive while trying to get to either import things or to change folders to other games. The only thing to do at this poitn is to force the program to close and restart it. This has just recently began to happen and I have no idea why this is but it's really annoying.

Does your computer or laptop meet the RPG Maker VX Ace specs? If so then the only other thing I can offer for you to do is to just wait a few minutes for the graphics to import. Sometimes my laptop says "Has Stopped Responding" when I'm importing a lot of graphics. Give it some time whilst importing and see what happens.

Do you use the steam version? then it's probably the steam cloud updating in the background, because Steam-Ace is programmed to wait until those updates are complete.

(there are ways to disable steam cloud for Ace, search the forum)

If that happens with the standalone version, something is damaged either in the editor program or in one of your windows background programs

Your specs are really good. RPG Maker VX Ace should have no problems with your computer. Yes like @Andar said, wait for updates to complete and then give importing the graphics another go. Be sure to give them plenty of time to import.

It happens on both versions.  This problem has begun just recently, not even two weeks ago.

Then it has to be a windows background program interfering with Ace - those are difficult to locate, and you need to solve the problem in the offending program.

My first check would go to your antivirus program - if that program blacklisted Ace, then it would try to prevent all file accesses by that "virus". And I know of at least one antivirus company which has blacklisted Ace in the past...

Other than that, check all background programs for "optimizing" or monitoring harddrive functions or files.

Update: This error seems to happen on RPG Maker XP now as well.

My father suggested this may be due to a Windows 10 patch, as running the program in Compability mode works okay.

Has Windows 10 become almost unusable for RPG maker?

might be - XP had minor problems since Win7 (like you need to redirect the default project window because you can't save into programs since 7) and always required compatibility mode.

As for Win10 - it's still not final as far as I know, and I remember an answer from when MS-Employees asked people when they would change to Win2000: One business owner answered "at about service pack three or four, then it should be stable enough for business/production environments".

If you had said that you're working on Win10 earlier, then you would have gotten the answer sooner...

If it's happening with both, I'd be looking at antivirus programs.  Others are running them all on Windows 10 with no problems.

I should realize that error was produced by a outdated version of MZ so that's why it pop up like that
