Having searched through a lot of the topics, none of them help with exactly what I want to do.

The second intro of my game (after a player transfer to a new map) is going to have two characters standing side by side and talking. However, not only can I not get the two sprites side by side but whenever I want to get the text to start, the screen fades out and switches the sprites position or the text doesn't show up at all for one of the actors. That or it fades out before the conversation happens despite already being on the map.

I believe I am supposed to use switches but unless it is broken down simply for me, I have no idea when/where to use the switches. Any help would be appreciated (since if I get this to work it would be a common event of sorts). If there is any other information I need to give simply let me know.

Hello, I can see that you are new and I welcome you here. However, since this question looks like a very basic one (most likely due to the fact that you are actually not using any switch at all), I recommend starting from a tutorial. There is a nice one made by Andar in my signature. Learning the basics about variables and switches will greatly speed up the process later on.

That said, when taking a screenshot, be sure to use Alt + PrtScreen instead of just the latter. If you do it that way you will only copy the current active window to your clipboard and reduce unnecessary parts, effectively reducing file size without affecting readability.

Moving on to your event: the autorun setting makes the engine run the event each frame. If you keep it that way, your event starts over and over again and is not going to work. Tho take a look at how events can only run once, you can create a random quick chest event. It is set to be an Action Button event, but the concept is the same and it shows how and where to use switches. Even so, I strongly recommend taking a month going through the tutorials to learn the basics.

I appreciate it the welcome and ill keep in mind the alt PrtScreen bit.

In regards to the help I need, I been messing with VX ace for a good month or two and understand a good amount of it (other than switches so I can spend more time understanding how that works) but even after going through the tutorials, none of them still give me the answer I need. Just reading and copying what they are doing doesn't help me since I learn better by watching and copying the same exact situation I am trying to fix (which from there I always work off that).

So ill go over the tutorials again but I might need more help in regards to what I need to do (I recall maybe posting the entire conversation in one event but doesn't help with some other issues).

Edit: Was able to get it to work the way I wanted. Had to mess with some of the switches (after looking through tutorials and one for cutscenes on youtube) but it isn't perfect.

In Andar's compilation there is a playable tutorial on Switches and Variables which you can also open up in the Editor to see how everything is done. Being interactive and examinable makes for much easier learning for many people.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
