Good evening!

Today I decided to visit the BundleStars site and grab the currently immensely cheap RPG Maker VX Ace game before the deal went away. As I install the game, I excitedly think of the awesome games and projects I can make with this and how I'll be able to use the many innumerable tips and tactics that I originally couldn't use when I only had RMXP. After a short waiting time, I load up the game and starting a new project... I've come to the conclusion that I have hit a wall before even starting.

Does anyone know of any good RMVXA Tutorials for beginners around? I used to think that when I was still on XP, it would be like: "Maybe most of the concepts will be in the new one." How wrong I was about that. There are lots of brand new features and so many things that XP doesn't have. For instance, Right+Click = Instant Door/Inn Event! [Yes, I am quite late for the party it seems.]

Do inform me if you know of any beginners topics on RMVXA that covers many topics a novice should know. For instance: How to align imported DLC tiles correctly in the "Tilesets" tab in the database? etc.)

[Also, please post links leading to outside websites if you really have to. Tutorials that are found safely inside the forums would be good.]

Thank you for your time,

- Tornado Summoner

since you are a beginner just spend a couple months getting used to the program.

A couple of months? I can understand that since I did the same with XP (but 3 1/2 weeks), but aren't there any quick things I should know about it?

You might want to take a better look at the forums, because all that you've asked for is here. For example the Tutorials forum has a guide for beginners pinned right at the top, as well as a tutorial list that covers almost you could possibly want to know.

Meanwhile, the General Resources one also has a pinned list about out of site resources right at the top, in case the amount of them on the site weren't enough. Seriously, take a look around: there's useful stuff all over the place.

I hope that helped getting you started...

EDIT:

Yeah, he might be exaggerating the learning curve a little, specially because you already have an RM background. I'd say that in less than a week or two, you'll be handling the program with no problem. Of course, that depends on how much time you're willing to put into it. ;)

Hah! Not a couple months! Took me two days, personally! Everything else was just as I went along!

Anyway, quick stuff:

- RGSS3 scripts only, not whatever XP has

- New tileset formatting

- New database formatting

- New mapping techniques

- Different sizes for sprites

- Some different event commands

The rest of it is very much a 'need to know' basis.

Yeah, A bit of a mistake on my part. I was just so overwhelmed at first, I didn't know where to look. (Ex: If I used this "???" tutorial, I might have to know another "???" tutorial to do "???"; Kind of like that.) I'll be sure to be extensive in searching next time. :D

Seems pretty updated. I'll have to get around to fixing the DLC tiles I imported onto the Database and aligning them correctly so when I put them down on the map they don't bring another piece of texture with them. Also, I thought I was seeing things when I saw the character size had significantly decreased. Seems like alot, but I'll get it.

Andar has some excellent beginner's tutorials.  If you're already used to XP, some of them will be old hat to you though.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
