where do you try to create the project folder?

there are several folders where Win7 restricts access (with good reason), you should create the folder under "my documents".

If it gives the same message when trying to save the project in "my documents", then most probably the compatibility settings for the editor are wrong - or your user access rights have been limited by an admin on that PC.

just reinstalled in "my documents", i still get the message, and i'm logged in as administrator, so i can't see where the problem is

Is there a 64-bit client ?

Shaz told me that it works in 64-bit...

since ur logged in as admin, why not try to run the XP in admin too? When I was using VX, I needed to do that... so maybe that was also the case with XP...

btw, why did you reinstall it into My documents?

Wrong
I wasn't talking about where to install the client, I was talking about were to save the project.

I just tested it with the XP trial, and my assumption of where the error was is correct: the default path for project saving is a restricted folder under Win 7 64-bit.

1) Install XP regularly without any changes

2) when creating a new project, press the browse-Button "..." to the right, change the target directory to "my documents" - everything works fine.

Yep, install the RTP and XP itself into the regular place - Program Files (I created a new D:\Dev folder for mine and put it there). Then when you create a new project, create THAT in My Documents or a new folder that's not inside any of the default Windows folders. Always problems when you try to create projects in the Programs or other Windows folders.

Looks like i misunderstood the "my documents" part ^^

I can now manage to create project with the following advices :

-RPG maker reinstalled in program files

-run as administrator

-save project in "my documents"

i still can't save in program files even as an administrator, but since i can save/load a project from my documents, i'll go that way

Thanks you all

Yeah, you cannot create the folder inside Program Files... it's kind of a restricted area... also, it's meant for full programs anyway, so it's not really the ideal place to put an RM project...

plus, my documents is the default right?

Of course you can't.
no one should ever save data into the program files folder - that is why Win7 specifically created that restriction to enforce something that should have been common knowledge since Windows XP.

If you save data into the program file folder, you're creating problems for the restore functions and automatic backups (and several other types of programs where I don't know if you use them or not.

If you save into program files on other computers that don't have that restriction: DON'T

You'll prevent a lot of headaches for yourself...

EDIT:

plus, my documents is the default right?
No, unfortunately not for RMXP - that program is too old to identify the "my documents" folder on modern Windows-Versions and gets redirected to the program folder as default...

I'm experiencing a similar problem, but with Windows 8.1. I've tried everything requested to me, but none of it is seeming to work. Every time I try to create a new folder, I get the same message, and I'm just about ready to throw my computer across the room.

WHERE do you try to create the new folder?
As told above you're forbidden to create a folder inside the "Program files" (which are unfortunately the old default path in RMXP), you need to change to a different folder to create a new folder.
