Wait until they update it. The current release version has some nasty mess ups in it that make it sound very very bad. A lot of the songs have "double instruments" playing, while others just weren't remastered very well (some of the instruments "drown out" the sound of others, making the song sound different from the original). You're better off just important the original XP songs into your RMVX Ace if you want to listen to them, though I think that's illegal to use in your games.

They said they recognize the flaws in the songs and will fix them. I hope they send out an email when that happens so we know to download the better version.

Glad I read this topic, It's the first resource pack I planned to buy. I'll wait until they finish it before I spend my hard-earned dollars.

If there are so many flaws with it, I think the only honorable thing to do is for them to withdraw it until it's fixed, as at the moment it appears that it is not fit for purpose.  If they don't and people buy it and find it's in this mess they will be (i) seriously annoyed and (2) less likely to buy any other packs.

Calling it a cheap hack job would be accurate, except that at $20 it's overpriced too.

Any news on this remastered pack yet? XP was my favorite soundtrack and I'd love to have the proper remaster on my phone~

I listened to the track that were featured via SoundCloud.  I gotta say...they are not well mastered, too much reverb and no limiting or real punch from the instruments.

The funny thing is, I remastered a few tracks from XP about 8 or so months ago for an RPG I was working on using the Lite version of RPG Maker VX Ace and of course I got the XP MIDI's off the official RPG Maker site, so I redid them.  I dunno, I think they cam out far better and not so much of a mess.  I had listened to Town 6 off their SoundCloud and immediately I was stunned!  Wanna know why?  Here, maybe you can tell for yourselves:

Oh and this is going by the original instrumentation mappings in the MIDI's.  I didn't change anything, I don't think.  My secret?  Use instruments that aren't using far-away mics (if using expensive software libraries), tone down the reverb or at least tweak it to sound better) and play around with the original instrumentation to get the original sound but with updated software players to render something truly great!  I had planned on redoing every single MIDI from XP, but I would have never had time to devote to my project, which to make it really shine, I'd need the full version of RPG Maker VX Ace...which I currently can't afford. lol

Anyway, if you all want, that track is ready for Ace.  Looped properly and so are these others from XP.  Give them a try, including the people/person remaking the official OST tracks.  Inspiration!

These sound great Dark, it's too bad you can't remaster it for them! It seems to be taking a long time. I suppose it's not a priority, but the XP songs hold a special place in my memories and your renditions are much better.

Thank you seita!  Yeah, the music in XP is really great and if they asked me to, I would certainly put what I'm doing on hold to remaster all of it.  I'd go back a redo a couple of pieces like Field 3 and Battle 1 since they are somewhat rushed renders.  Still, I hope they do well with this library of music.  I also hope they redo the VX music is it's really a throwback to RPG Maker 2000's music.

Wow, those are great! I wish the Ace music was as good as these.. I find it hard to use the music from Ace and keep looking elsewhere. The ones from XP is so much better :(

Thanks Dark_Meta.  I like most of the music from Ace, but I do have to say they did a fantastic job on the music in XP.  Even as MIDI's they are really good, I just kinda brought out that extra bit of life that they bring to the table.  My compliments to the composer(s) of the music in XP.

Maybe it's just me, but the OST doesn't sound as bad as people are saying (to me, anyways). Sure, there's different ways to remaster something, and there's always room for improvement, but from what everybody has been saying, I was expecting VX bad. That's not to say they can't be better, and Dark's remastered versions are pretty good, but from the comments I'm seeing I was expecting something much worse than what I've heard so far.

But I'm just basing my judgment on the samples. Might be there's other tracks not included in the samples that weren't handled with as much attention.

Oh, no doubt.  I don't mean to bash the music, but I'm usually very critical about how polished something can sound.  Also, the echoey effects in RM2k and VX music is...odd, but I see why they did it.  It was to simulate reverb that can't be achieved by the run-of-the-mill Microsoft GM Synth.  Whenever remastering those, usually the best course of action is to ignore those echo channels and add in your own rendered echos using VST's.

Right, went off on a tangent there. :p

No, they aren't bad, they just sound really muddy, or at least the ones I listened to did.  Different strokes, right?

Honestly i wish someone would remix/remaster all the XP,VX, and Ace OSTs.

I wonder how IGMs OST sounds?

It's unfortunate that music tends to go by the wayside when it comes to games, maybe that's why the remastered XP pack wasn't as well thought out as it should have been. On the contrary I think it's one of the most important aspects of the game, and I really hope it gets the treatment it deserves soon.

Well, I got roped into a bit of a project, the likes of which I really can't discuss yet, but keep an eye out.  It's gonna be interesting!

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
