Hey all. I am new to RPG maker VX Ace and I am close to finishing up the starting town for my game but I need to create something and i can't figure out how to do it. Basically the main character is a demi-god and his godly father finally comes to see him, and the two are supposed to fight than the MC gets a reward from his father. I am having trouble figuring out how to make that happen.

What I want to happen is that the MC goes to the temple talks to the High Priest and the priest sends him to the field to the north of town where someone is waiting for him. Upon talking to this person a little dialogue appears than the two fight before a reward is given out.

So any help would be appreciated.

Check out my video tutorials.

Start with Conditional Branches >> Switches >> Variables >> Loops and Labels

That should give you a good grasp of RPG Maker.

Hey titan could I get links to the aforementioned videos or something? haha I am having no luck finding them. I also wish I had the time to try and do Ace Academy but I just don't think I do.

Should be pretty simple.  You can do it a few ways but the easiest is to create an event in the area that has the sprite of the father he is fighting.  In the event tab you'll put your dialogue and what have you.

Heres you have your basic event: - Chose your graphic and enter your text.

Next you'll want to do a "Battle Processing" - You can also chose to continue if you lose here or disable running away

Now once thats done, you can add more dialogue or whatever, then chose "Add Weapon"/Item/Armor/etc like you want.

Next, You'll want to change the event so it no longer repeats the battle... If its just this event you want changed, use a "Control SelfSwitch" shown here:

Lastly, Create a new tab and check the "Self-Switch ON" box, and select whichever self-switch you chose in the last step.  This means that it will be locked in that from now one, so it won't repeat the battle every time you talk to him

Don't worry about Ace Academy. There's always Semester 2. :)

Picture 4 and 5 Cover that **. You'll want to open a new event tab, add no graphic, and check off the "Self-Switch" Box like I have in picture 5.. and at the end of the dialogue you'll want to add a "Self Switch" Like in Picture 4.

If you want him to not just "poofgone", can also have the event layout go something like

Fadeout Screen

Control Self Switch A: ON

Then on page 2 have

"Fadein screen.

This will basically means screen fades-to-black > Event disappears > Screen fades back in, making it a tad more fluid... But this is just real basic, You can also have him walk/fly away, or even vanish with a lightning bolt animation/flash... Titans tutorials will help you a good deal too and explain this more advanced stuff lol.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
