RPG TCG Like Old Pokemon Game for GB

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there already has been a game created based on TCG.
Main concept is you're given cards, can unlock packs by defeating people around town, winning tournaments etc.
The cards level up and not the character themselves.
Is this idea a possibility in RPG maker?

I am new so please forgive my ignorance.

Hello man, yes It's possible, but making all the mechanics through the default MV tools is very very hard. The best way is to combine the MV things with some good coding skills. It's not really difficult to learn Javascript, I'm sure that with some practice you can do it! :kaojoy:

Thank you for your response. I have 0 experience with coding so I guess this may be an idea for a future project.
At least I know it is possible to make in RPG maker.

There's only so much tweaking and coding that would be better to build the game on another engine. I love MV, but its easy of use is also why it is difficult to deviate so much from its core elements.

Yea you may be right. I grew up playing JRPG and Magic the gathering and thought there would be a cool way to incorporate both into a single game and the Pokémon TCG game from way back came to mind.

The library of MV can appear "strict" or something, but if you learn the object concatenation and the base where all is set (Pixi.js) you have an unlimited creative power. On your side you have also JS and Node.js that have a very big amount of resources around the internet like custom libs. I succeed in making with MV for improving my coding skills some Pokemon mechanics, a tamagotchi, a little guns abs and lot of little things. They are still unstable to be build in a project, but It can be done almost everything. Take you time for learning the basis of the MV engine itself and then when you have a little experience in that, you can try to learn coding!

Thank you for your help. I am only a week into RPG Maker MV and I think for my first game will be a generic RPG game with the basic tilesets. PS your Blue Moon name is a deck from magic the gathering! Also my parents are from Italy! Woot!:)

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
