I know there are limits to what games shared on here (sexual content as an example needs to be limited) but what about violence and language? As my game has fairly coarse language and graphic depictions.

Language seems not to matter much anymore, I've played games here that drop the harsher curses fairly often, and content doesn't seem overtly monitored either as long as it is not gratuitous: For example a game depicting (but not glorifying or showcasing or anything) the sexual assault of a small child has been allowed to stay as well as far as I know (been a couple months since I ran into it) so I'd doubt there is much you could do with pixilated blood and gore to overstep the pg15ish ideal standard set here considering how realistically bloody similarly rated "photo-realistic" games can be.

Though I'm just another member assuming based on the games I've stumbled across here, it doesn't appear at least that the mods and admins are particularly rigged when it comes to that kind of stuff as long as it is properly tagged and such.

Overall, the standard is PG-13. That is because this is a business website, a business that markets it's products to 13+.

That being said, we do allow games that are a bit more mature to be posted here. However, there must be a clear disclaimer in the headlines. As Philosophus Vagus said, it's rare that we have to deny projects based on violence, since really, it's hard to get too graphic with RM. Not impossible, I can think of one image in Game Map & Screenshots I had to hide, so it can be done, however, that's in a year and a half, the only thing too violent I've seen.

Language needs a disclaimer, and we would ask that it not be presented in screenshots of dialogue or trailers that are posted. Some curse words are okay. A screenshot of dialog where the "F word" is said 10 times, not so much. The same goes with sexual content. Girls in small bikinis is one thing. Girls in almost-non-existent bikinis in suggestive poses, not so much. And we have denied games that, while maybe not presented in the topic, were known to contain some pretty heavy sexual content.

Mostly just use common sense and if you're really in doubt, message a mod with questions.

Okay, I ask because there are moments in cutscenes for my game where there's anime-like drawings that depict like a villain towering over someone they had just killed, with quite a bit of blood.

I think as long as there is a disclaimer, you can post it. I'm pretty certain we've had weed games posted here before.

And putting this disclaimer here: Really, each game is a case by case basis. It's hard to set truly hard and fast rules over every scenario that comes up. This is at least partly why game threads go into a moderation queue - so that we can make sure everything is approvable. (Is that a word? It is now.)

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
