I just saw this Sakan Tileset Builder for MV on steam. It looks pretty good. I am looking for some opinions from some tileset builders or pixel artists on how good it is for creating tiles and tilesets or maybe you have already bought it and tried it. What do you think?

To be honest with how many pixel art alternatives there are (be it cheaper or even free) I wouldn't even consider paying for it. Personally I like using Pyxel Edit, it'll run ya 10 bucks but the function it has is well worth it

I will buy it to support development of more MV Tools =3, and to be able to use the extra tiles that come with it! I'm excited to see what new tools will come out, and how they will change the editor...there is a possibility of an isometric map Tool...it was hinted at on the Japanese site a while back! Perhaps its even possible to make your own custom tools! X3

Ive heard a lot of complaints about this new tool, some say it only does stuff that you can already do better in an external image editor, but I personally like having a internal program in the editor that I can use to make small quick changes to the tiles, as I have need :) .

It has been out for only a few days, I think people will need more time to test it before they can really give a good evaluation...

@ItzTerry True, but I'd like future tools (which may be of more use to me) to be available on non-Steam versions of MV.

I second this comment - I"d like to see Tools made available outside of Steam. I don't mind Steam itself, but I don't want to have to run everything OUT of Steam.

@Andar Sorry about that. I thought product and discussion was only for non-rpgmaker products so I posted it in General Discussion. I will remember next time.

I also would like to see more tools either on steam or outside of steam.

@KaBlooZio I agree we should support the development these tools.

To all thanks for your opinions it really gives me something to think about.

Same. Not to mention Steam is adding 10-15% GST on every transaction in July*.

Maybe I will buy it if the tiles that come with it are worth it. Is there a way so see the tile parts?

@Iliketea I think some of the screenshots on Steam show a few of the more unique assets the tileset builder has to offer.

@Iliketea, I don't think I would be able to provide a blurred/stamped picture for you, but I can at least characterize the images a bit:

In the Decorations section, there is a small assortment of objects (soccer ball, heart, hat, etc), some stained glass windows, assorted modern tech (TV, computer monitor), wall paintings, and some neon signs. I think the size is a little over half a B-E tile sheet.

In Buildings, there are two new roof options.

There is a large Bedroom furniture section with beds and pillows and stuff you can recombine however you like. Looks like a little under half a B-E tilesheet.

There is a Food section, about half of a B-E tile sheet. Most of it is small items to be recombined into platters however you like. Plus some plates and pots and such.

Furniture is self-explanatory. Mostly modern-looking. Some sideview furniture, which is cool. Roughly half of a normal B-E tile sheet.

Ground has 53 new floor tile options.

Interior has 80 new tiles of windows, stairs, and carpets.

Mechanical is interesting. About half the size of a B-E tile sheet. Machine parts, piping, gears, etc.

Exterior has 63 new outdoor tiles. Plants, rocks, and some cars.

Shop has some shelving, modern shopping carts, weapons, and assorted items like shoes. Roughly a quarter the size of a B-E tile sheet.

Hope that helps you make an informed purchasing decision!

When I first saw it, I thought it would allow us to edit/organize new tile sheets without having to add new files in the project - this would be sooo useful ;_; but yeah, just as an image editor I don't think it is worth it... the new tiles seems like a nice addition though, and maybe it facilitates the creation of autotiles, which is nice, but I'm not sure it does.

@Musashi That's what I thought it did - allow me to create new tilesets on the fly. Might get it for the new resources, though.

@chalkdust Oh that certainly is a lot! The high price was a bit of a downer for "only" the program but from what it sounds like the tiles it comes with are more or less worth the price.
Thanks a lot!

Okay, I must be missing something but how do you actually assemble a tilesheet in the Export tab? I can put a single tile on a pre-existing sheet and it will export with that tile replacing what was there before, so much is clear. But how do I put multiple tiles on it? do I really have to re-save after every tile (and go through that whole chose-the-right-file-and-then-tell-the-computer that-you-really-really-want-to-overwrite-the-existing-file rigmarole)?

@SamJones Yeah looks like it.
That is the no1 thing that ha to be fixed. That and the wild pixel...

But here i what I think of it:
Is the programm worth the money?
NOPE
Its usefull if you forgot to add one thing to a tileset or want to switch something out, but for MAKING one its really bad. At least at the moment

But are the parts worth it?
Mostly.
Even more so if you are using Yanflys Doodads.
Just buy it, take the parts from the folder and be happy.
However some dont really fit the RTP style, either because they are too realistic or because they are too pixel-art.
But about 80% of them are a great addition to every project.
I absolutely love the gems and ores!

There are still some wild pixel sometimes but that can be fixed very quick and maybe they will patch it.
