Side Note: We are trying to cut down some profanity that is used in the visual novel as we find it unnecessary to the story. Though, we use it as a source for being funny in a way that other players can relate to.


About:

Using the latest RPG Maker MV engine, my friend and I created a visual novel. We are currently not aware of any visual novel being made with the RPG Maker MV engine, though we do know that RPG Maker VX Ace and previous titles were used to make visual novels. We made this visual novel to, obviously, tell a story but also we want to make the very first visual novel using the RPG Maker MV engine.


Neither me or my friend have any experience in digital art. We do not have the right tools and necessary equipment to create our very own designs and pictures. So most of our art is borrowed. Though, we've completely credited everyone one of the users that we borrowed from. We do not plan to take any donation nor releasing this game as a commercial product. It is all for the fun of telling a great story.


This visual novel is intended to be really huge about its story. There are some choices to be made, and those choices impact the outcome, but there won't be too much gameplay elements besides that. The game is still in development stages so probably some changes will be made to this but right now, we aren't planning to implement many gameplay elements. Though to compensate, we are developing a really good storyline, one good enough to probably get a sequel. The story will keep you held down to wanting more.


We haven't decided if we're going to follow a episode-based system here. But to deliver the whole story in just one game will be a huge problem. So we are probably going to have to release episodes of the visual novel to play from, and therefore having to implement a "import save" system, which we haven't figured out how to do yet. My friend and I aren't really good at programming with Javascript. Though we do take programming classes, I have learned Python and Livecode but that's about it.

Story:

Two young college boys, Sasuki and Buturu, were just living out their natural college lives as gaming shut-ins. They are what you would call an "otaku". One day, they magically were transported into a parallel world. They both wake up in a beautiful house and meet this cat-girl named Nyan. Nyan proclaims herself as their master, thus making them her slaves. What such things could Nyan force her slaves to do?


--- NOTE ABOUT STORY: ---


The story isn't completely thought out yet. It is still in development, which is why this story description may seem pretty vague. Though we want to give some story background, we don't want to reveal anything special that ties to actually playing the visual novel. We want it to be experienced, not told.

Sasuki Oshida


Description:


Sasuki Oshida is just a natural college student. He loves video games, especially JRPGs, and anime! Of course with his friend Buturu by his side, they are the anime nerd duo! No homo... Sasuki has a little sister and they both share a close bond. Though being an anime nerd, Sasuki is pretty built in shape, as he jogs in the morning before classes and goes to the gym regularly. He is pretty balanced out. Also, Sasuki has a really straight-forward personality, but even so he is still very polite and respectful.

Buturu Ao


Description:


Buturu Ao is your natural college student shut-in. He loves video games and anime, same as Sasuki. They are the perfect match of friends. Buturu is a skinny man, who survives off Ramen noodles and Cup-of-noodles. Though, he is really smart and thoughtful. He thinks his actions through and barely makes a mistake for what his outcome is. Therefore giving him a smart personality.

Nyan Nekona


Description:


Nyan Nekona was born in this parallel world, known as Sekai (which in Japanese means "world"). Nyan Nekona has no siblings, nor any remembrance of her parents. Born and raise by a guild known as Yume, she is a dedicated member of the guild. She has somewhat of a childish personality. Speaking from the name itself, she basically still acts like a child in a grown body. Don't take Nyan lightly though, as she has some proficiency in magic.

Miki Toshiska


Description:


Miki Toshiska is born in Japan, the same as Sasuki and Buturu. She was also summoned into the parallel world of Sekai, not knowing of what her being there is. She is a part of the guild Ushi, joining not too long after being summoned. She has one big brother and a little sister. She loves reading books and manga, especially.

We are still developing new characters to meet along the way, as we plan for a really impactful visual novel. But these four characters are the main characters of the story. We did make some side characters that are completed and are integrated into the story, but we won't be revealing them here. You'll have to play the visual novel to get to meet them.

The Choice System is a system created for players to create game-impacting choices. The way the story will run and the outcomes will be affected by the choices you make. So make your choices wisely. One wrong choice or accidental pick will end up changing how your story will be played out.

*This feature is still a concept / idea. It is currently NOT in the visual novel.


The Save Import System will allow players to import saves from previous releases. We're mimicking this system from the Telltale Games save import system. Doing so will import your choices from the last visual novel episode.



>-- "Interactions / Bonding" --<

You are able to interact with other characters in the visual novel. The main character that you play as is Sasuki. You can interact with many various things, which can be affected story-wise. Talking to other characters, as well, will help you bond with them if you choose the right choices. Bonding with characters can change a dialogue, the story, or a story choice in the future.


We also have added a Bond checking system, which is accessible from the menu. You can check your Bond Score with other characters you meet along the way. The bond scores with other characters can affect the course of the story significantly.

Okay, so we're not adding puzzles to the game, which compensates for not having a battle system. There are going to be many puzzles in this game to get through to the next part of the story. Even in the new demo, that's going to be coming out, there's going to be a little puzzle to pass through before the demo ends.



>-- "Notifications" --<

We are going to have notifications pop up on the top-left of the screen. These notifications notify important details when you traverse through the visual novel. It can tell you if you've bonded / loss trust with someone, or if something very important or dramatic has happened.

There are many features that are taken from Telltale Games. We want to give a game, a visual novel, that's similiar to Telltale Games's games but with a twist of our own ideas as well. A demo is planned to be released, hopefully, sometime in August. That demo can be downloaded or played on a HTML5-supported web browser. The team has already figured out on how to export the visual novel to HTML5 and put it into a online server database. So follow this post and stay tune for more information.

Note [ 8/6/2016 ] :


I worked on a new system which allows you to check your Bond Score with another character you meet. Interactions and interacting plays a huge role in this visual novel, and we want it to play a big part in the storyline. So what better way to allow the player to see how they've bonded with other characters is to make this system. The system is completely event-based, no plug-ins. And it's currently one of my common events. It can be accessed from the menu and checked at any time the menu is accessible. In addition, a lot of other dialogues for characters and interactions have been finished.

Description:


As said above, we are currently looking for some help in this visual novel. There are some things that me and my partner aren't capable of doing well. Currently, we have 2 members working on the visual novel, though that number can change. I, noodels4life, am the Main Director of this project, and also Co-story Director. So those spots are taken. And my friend, Alpha_Prime327, is the Story Director. We will list the available spots below and what they do to help in this project. If you're interested and would like to fill in a spot, please contact us via E-mail and I'll get you sorted out quickly, with a job application, information, etc. In addition, I am the Main Director and I will see to working with the visual novel in RPG Maker MV. So applying for a job here will not include with touching the actual RPG Maker MV project but rather helping outside of it. Though, I would be open to suggestions at any time.


Job Descriptions:


Main Director - This person sees to all the activity in the project. He/she gives directions to what they see fit, but huge decisions will be made out of a consensus with the team.


Story Director - This person creates most of the story. They create the story, and the Main Director will carry it out in the project.


Artist / Graphics Designer - This person will create most of the anime-like images for the visual novel. You must have experience in creating well-drawn anime characters to our liking. A test will be put out, and completing that test will allow you to join us on the team.


Plugin Director - This person creates and tweaks plug-ins for the visual novel. This job, however, is not a job to be looking for plug-ins to suggest into the visual novel. You must have some type of experience in Javascript.


Social Media Director - This person will update social media sites and forums for this visual novel. They will be mainly in charge of that, with the exception that I, noodels4life, will help as well. This access to the social media is only given to us.

Last Note before you join:


Applying to help us in this visual novel project requires a full, 100%, commitment. If you're already helping another person create another project, then just stick with that project or leave it to help us full-time. I understand that some of us may have inconveniences here and there and that's okay. I'm not awfully strict in keeping in contact, in fact I'm a really easy-going person. Though, I would like you to try to keep in contact. Not being able to respond for 7 days without notice will result in us firing you from your position. You are welcome to quit at any time for any reason however, do know that you are leaving what you work with us behind. Abandoning your position will also leave us in trouble for searching a replacement, so think long before making this decision. Remember, we are not gaining any sorts of money from this visual novel. We simply just want it to be known and for people to enjoy it, Choosing to work with us will result in you wasting some hours on a project you won't gain too much back from. Remember that and think it over before you join. Getting help will help us create these episodes faster. Without the help, episodes will still come but progression would be a lot slower than the average team effort.

If you actually read this post, I want to say one thing. School is right around the corner so production in the visual novel will be slower than usual. I would have to scale my Schoolwork and this work on a 50/50 balance. We got some promising results so far with this visual novel. But school will hold me back in completing the demo. Demo will be released either this month, August, or next month, September.

If you want someone to play it, don't say "play it first and judge me later". The brief introduction will makes the viewer of the game choose either to play it or not. You don't spoil the whole story, you'll just make them interesting to play.

Yes, we took into consideration that our story needs to be top notch in order for others to take interest in this game since it is more of a visual novel than an RPG. Interaction plays a huge role in our game because we want the player to develop a little relationship and feeling with those characters. The story is almost complete for Episode 1. And when it is done, we are going to update the Story section of this topic. 


But thanks for the feedback tho! We love receiving good feedback to allow us to know how our viewers think of our project so far. Useful feedback like this will help us improve this game before it's demo release.
