Hello everyone,

In a lot of games at the moment the player can select 1 out of 3 game slot and then play the full game without having to worry about saving and then if he wants to start a new game he can always use a different game slot.
Some examples of games that comes to mind : Slay the spire, Neon Abyss, Katana zero, into the breach...

I would like to do something similar for my game as I'm not really doing a traditional JRPG type of game.

On the main menu :
- Enter the game
- Select slot / profile (1,2,3)
- Options

And when playing in game it will save on the currently selected slot.

I have been trying to use some auto save plugins but the issue I have is that it doesn't allow me to select a slot at the start of the game, and then it just save on the slot 1 for instance.

Anyone knows how to build a system like this ?

You could keep the save slot ID in a variable when you start the game and when you go to save, you can just save to that slot.
Or, just try this plugin:

check TSR_Save which you can select a save and it will save over that slot.
you can go manually to the save slot as well if you like too to save on a different slot.
else the same slot you play.

it has an autosave feature in it and advance complex for the data you want to be
on the slot, some examples are on it as well, so you can go in most way that fit
your needs and imagination.

Yep I'd say TSR_Save is just about perfect for what you need.
Well done spotting that @ShadowDragon & amazing job creating that @TSR!

I think I'll probably use this plugin feature myself sometime soon. ;)

@ct_bolt I use this plugin myself, I debug it most of his function, because
there was no plugin that what I wanted, it has even more than what i need,
but enough that most dev's can use a feature they need :)

beside this one, POR_SaveCore is another one, but not that highly
customizable, like TSR, but it's really what a dev's need and how good their
JS is to even increase the feature more =)

But one thing is certain, using TSR = one of the best the community can get
to make 1 very unique save scene that fits their game =) ("Personal though").

So I tried it and OMG it's exactly what I was looking for ! Thanks so much :D

I only have one issue, when on the main menu, if all save slot are filled and the player select new game, the game won't be saved anywhere at all.
Is there a way to fix that ? Like maybe if all files are taken there is an error message saying "delete one of your files before starting a new game". Or maybe is it possible to completely remove the "new game" option ? As player can start a new game from the "continue menu" ?

Hello, @Niloc!
I have made another Plugin for the Title Screen: TSR_Title
It will allow you to remove the 'New Game' command from the Title Command window, along with many other features. It is made to work alongside TSR_Save. Give it a look. :rock-right:

Those two plugins work perfectly for what I am trying to do :)
Thank you so much TSR for the awesome work !

Very cool problem-solving here!!

Moving this thread to Plugin Requests, as that was probably the best board to post it on in the first place.

I didn't you can disable "New Game" when all slots are filled or removed :p
but nice catch @Niloc . I'm curious how you build your save scene =)
Mine can be hard overcome though, but it can also be nicer or better for a new
kind of view what can be done :)

the idea's can be endless if you ask me :D

Well I did something very simple actually :

Basically I changed the text from "continue" to "Start" and then player have to choose which slot he wants to play :)

I use press any key, and go to the scene load (which is first scene) even if they want
to start a new game, so they select a save slot to start a game, than it saves on it.

if they continue they load it, else they must delete one :) (see sample on TSR_Save).

I had a birthday party earlier today. No-one showed up. ;_;
yay my offer is up :) joys
@wrigty12 hi! thanks for showing interest in my work. Sadly the tablet I'm using broke, so I wasn't able to create anything for weeks. Got a new one with display, I'm still not used to it though, so I'm still practicing, doing basic drawings again. Also I'm in my last year of college. Thesis, projects and other activities takes most of my time ;_;.
I'll get back to it whenever I get a free time.
Any artists here planning on participating in the Inktober art prompts this October?
It's right around the corner.
It's rpg maker related so I'll post it here, I worked on a little free rpg maker zine and this was my piece. Play Grimm's Hollow if you haven't already, I liked it a lot. (i don't remember if posting a link to a product even if free is allowed via profile posts, so if anyone knows lemme know)
