Hello! Jac here!

Save Transfer question.
Just wondering if there is a possible script for VX Ace on Save Transfer to another game? Like creating a new Save Database that save itself in another game and continue on from there using the same map but different characters? Especially if I ran out of space for, let's call it "Game Part 1" so I'd want to transfer it to "Game Part 2" and etc.

Adding another game to the Main Game question
For this one, I wanted to create a script that create a new option in the Title Scene that lets you play a "Side Story". I actually have everything in the Side Story file inside the Main Game folder with it's own folder. Just wondering if this one is possible. Like somehow playing Side Story will overwrite the Main Game and play from there.

Side Note: I have been trying to create my own script where you move on from Game Part 1 to play Game Part 2, it will delete Part 1 until you beat it. I think the total is 5 games altogether for me as I'm creating a "Generation" type game where players can choose whichever lovers and their "children's" genders and continue the story. Yeah, I bit on more than I can chew! Lol. But I know this is possible. Regardless of the challenge. And drawing it has been fun. Lol

for a direct save transfer, the databases for the games need to be identical. The second game may have a larger database, but you can only add to the data and everything from the first game needs to be identical in the second one. You also need to make sure that the transfer only counts while the player is on a map that exists in both games identically.

so that is rarely done because of the limitations of going that way.

what would be theoretically better is to create your own datafile by script and use that to transfer the game data. That way you'll need to different scripts (one for saving in the old game, the other for loading in the new game) but you can transfer data - the tier 10 sword from the first game might be the beginner sword in the second one with all weaker swords deleted from the database.

This way you can do what you want, but it requires you (personally) be able to script, or have someone write a custom script for you (and that would mean that you will be unable to change your games unless you get that script rewritten on each change)

@Andar

Thanks for the quick reply! Is there any Example that I can look up and try to understand it that way? If not, that's okay! Just telling me this is a huge step forward and I can always do everything by looking at the Scripts already made for RPG Maker VX Ace!

there is not really an example, because most people who tried that have failed.
to be precise most people even have problems completing a single game and never come to the point where they need to split the story, because a single project can hold enough data for a 10-hour game unless you do something very strange...

for the side-story you might want to search for a so-called "new game+" script, there were two or three available for Ace years ago.

@JacSkulls If you need a new game+ script I would recommend this one:
If you do plan on using this one, let me know I have some addons that were made for it depending on what other scripts you are using.

Ouch! Must be a lot more challenging than I thought! Lol. Don't worry! I will try to figure it out, myself! I actually used Yanfly New Game+ but ended up taking it out because the events didn't restart itself so I figured I'd try doing it a different way. (I think I still have it on one of the side project that I was testing things on).

Edit: Huh. I didn't realize it can hold up to 10 hours. I have been reading that VX Ace has a limitation that stops you from advancing any further after a certain amount. What is the worst thing a person can do as far as "strange" goes?

@JacSkulls If you need a new game+ script I would recommend this one:
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of addons do you have? I think I still have Yanfly's New Game+. I need to check.

Edit: I have it.

where you got that? because it is clearly wrong. There are limits, but no one has approached them yet unless they were doing things without thinking them through.
For example there is a limit on 999 maps maximum, but games that play around 4-5 hours usually only need less than 200 maps. But some people got to 900 maps by making every room of a single castle another map...

Woah! I'm not willing to go that far! Lol. But that is what I heard about as far as limitation goes. Problem is, I didn't remember that limit. And because I am pretty much making an open world map just about, I was worried that I would run out of space. So far, I ended up using up to 108 "maps". So I figured I might need a back up plan. Especially since I am making 6 large maps as countries and etc... I was also worried about using up every "switches" as well.

Let me know if any of these catch your eye:
Aside from both Yanfly's scripts, what is the rest of them? I heard of Galv but was unable to read more into it due to some of the links being broken. Never heard of the others. It would actually be nice if I could change the background to one of my images for each chapters (There are 5 chapters), is that possible with any of the scripts here? Or do you think I'd have to create my own background scripts for each Event to change it to whatever images I want?

Edit: Sorry! I know I went off topic with this one! Lol. It brought about new questions from when I was researching it! But actually, I'd like your opinion on what is best. If that's okay with you?

The galv script is an addon to the save mechanic from yanfly. The global save helps with variables and other things when saving in game. The Save bar script is a script that shows pictures that you use to show saving and loading a game. If you are interested in the scripts let me know, I will send them to you along with the images that are needed for the save bar script. I also have a script that allows you to have an animated menu screen if you are interested.

It's strange and interesting what you've been reading. Some of is clearly wrong.
A game can have as many hours to play as you can make it.
I personally am trying to make my game a 100+ hour game. Might only get 50+, but it's a goal at least.
With that much time playing, there has to be a lot of maps to keep the player interested and lots of quests/cutscenes/vocabulary/etc. With the Built in limit of 999 maps, I've been merging 'maps' together. So in a town where there are 5 shops, I put them all onto one map (spaced apart so you can't the other ones). When I get my demo finished, I might only have 100 maps used. Currently have 67.

Please! I would love to have something like that! And thank you!

@Roninator2
That's actually pretty smart! Guess I'm an Airhead! Lol. At least I tried researching, even if I did end up in strange places. I mean, for some reason, there's a VX Ace tutorial site on Google that sent me to a porn site. I think I was a lot further in the pages when I came across it. Not sure if that was a popup or the site itself. I didn't stay long since I didn't want any viruses. But I really had no idea. I came across another Forum from years ago about going pass the limits for both Events and Maps but found out there was no way of doing it. So I wondered if there was a Save Transfer and that's how I ended up here.

I would definitely script it. Otherwise you could easily paint yourself up into a corner due to the restrictions getting it to function requires.

Keep the code for loading the data you want to import completely separate from the normal load code. This allows you add/remove/manage scripts that modify the structure of your save files in your game without messing up the importing.
You can also apply whichever transformation is needed after the import on the data to turn it into something your main game understands. I'd recommend starting the player up in a special "import" map afterwards where you through an event can do stuff like add/delete items, change gold, check switches, etc.

A script for importing save files between games must take of the particular specifics of the two save file structures so don't expect to find a general purpose script. Even if one exist you should that custom scripting is required.

P.s. the 999 map limit and 999 events per map limit is an editor limit only. From the perspective of the default code when running the game there is no limit. Lag does limit the number of events per map, but not the number of maps.

*hugs*

@Zeriab

Thank you for your advice! Highly appreciative! I think it might be awhile before I can truly do a custom script. It seems I need to slow down some and start re-reading everything before I can do a custom script. And that is actually useful to know! Editor Limit only.

Also, hugs back to you, friend! And thank you again!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
