Synopsis


  • This game is rated 15+ as it deals with topics of warfare, political oppression, and injury.

    World War One is raging. Two stragglers make their way through the alps, seeking shelter in an abandoned house. The player controls Wachtmeister, a less-than-competent officer, as he attempts to get along with Schulz, his sergeant, and sole remainder of their squad. Depending on how far the player takes them, the two can fight, bicker, and even kiss.

    This game is focused on storytelling. The short, self-contained story is revealed through a mix of internal narration and flashbacks that appear as the player interacts with objects found in two stories of the house. Each time the player plays through the story, a different ending can be achieved from the prior play-through. The mood is somber and wistful. Full colour illustrations will feature, alongside a number of specific, artist-drawn expressions for each character.

    This themes and story of this game was largely inspired by British anti-war media about WWI produced during the 1960’s-1980’s, due to the emphasis placed on individual stories of men from different places, social classes, and even countries sometimes managing to get along despite it all. The art was inspired by J.C. Leyendecker, Alphonse Mucha, and other artists active during the Belle Epoque period of roughly 1890-1910.

    This game is a single-player, top-down RPG built using RPGmaker MZ. It will be commercial. Sprites conveying facial expressions are currently placeholders, and will be swapped out in future builds. Estimated release date is September 10 2022, although this is subject to change in the future.

    An internal development demo exists and will likely be modified with art as soon as those assets are produced. Currently, concept art assets can be found below, alongside screenshots of gameplay. The finished product may have custom sprites, but it is too early to say for certain.

  • This game takes place somewhere in the German-speaking Alpine region during WWI, vaguely around 1917. The mountains are treacherous, and straying off of the beaten track is only for the foolhardy.

Also, game is now 80% programmed. Bug-testing will hopefully be carried out this week.

There's not a whole lot of bugs. The game-breaking ones were fixed ASAP, Now I have a whole list of cosmetic and/or sequence-breaking errors to work with

welp, thanks to Luna MV, I was able to add the Balloon as a window... thus allowing me to edit the font color and outline... so now it looks like comic bubbles above characters. I have NO idea why I couldn't get this to work through more conventional means, but here we are.
