So I've been working on my game for 11 days now and just realized i completely hate it. It sounded good in my head, but the poor

storyline development and having nothing original about it has led me to scrapping the entire thing. Anyone else had to restart their projects? ;_;

Sort of.

I once again made my game idea unmanagable to make in a month. So I've decided to just make a prequel game to my original idea.

Only 3 levels, so far easier to manage.

Luckily it doesn't involve too much reworking. Though I'll miss getting to do the lab sequence I wanted. lol.

Idk what to do now I feel like i should brain storm and then work even harder to meet the deadline. If i can't brainstorm anything while i'm trying i guess ill just

sit out and see what the other contestants are doing.

Pick a simple story idea, limit yourself to three or four levels and go for it.

Or do something quirky.

Be an apprentice Mage who dreams of being a great wizard, but whose tasks include washing the wizards socks, who mistakenly takes the wizards floppy hat, which leads some adventures to believe he is the wizard and he winds up saving to help then defeat an ogre who can only be defeated by magic because of an amulet it wears.

The quirk could be that he only knows household spells like 'wash' or 'sweep' or something. And the player has to figure out how to make hose spells work to defeat the ogre.

Is it your first game? If so, don't worry too much if you start off on the wrong foot. I mean, trust me you can't know how your game is gonna turn out after 11 days of work. After you have people testing a small demo of it you will get much needed feedback and can tweak it again, and again. Just because it feels a bit sloppy at the start it won't necessarily turn out to be a bad game. Things change as you work on your project, and you will come up with new ideas to polish it, or learn more about the engine to redo a lot of the stuff that's been put in there. My game started of with being extremly simple, with terrible maps and a story plot that was filled with cliches and what not, but that doesn't matter. It's the process that will change your game for the better (especially when you are new to the engine, trust me).

Wish you all the best with your project :)

Edit: And I'm stupid for not paying attention to the posts... Didn't realize this was for the game-event, sorry :p

I've had to change a lot of my fundamental ideas for my game (mostly for trimming purposes; I didn't want to be rebalancing stuff all the way up to the deadline) but the story has managed to stay the same. Then again, I'm still unsure if I'll actually fully enter, so I could have easily just kept with my original ideas and just completely scrapped being in the contest... (I haven't yet though because it's a bit nice having a confined schedule to work in)

Wow thanks guys :D

I sat down for the last two hours and actually wrote down a game script that I want to ellaborate on I am gonna save the game i am scrapping to try and salvage after contest, but I am going to use characters and hand drawn monsters and face graphics for this new project..

Trying to think of new features that I can add in that will make it different besides just my humor lol.

I like how quickly paladin pitched a game idea that is some creative thinking.

I had the same sort of problem. One week in and I realized that I wouldn't be able to pull off my original story on my own. So I simplified it, got the framework done, and now I have room to buff it up and make it more interesting. I'm kind of glad I finally trashed the original.

I have too many ideas bouncing round in my head. Lol.

It was more of an example. Take something small and build on it. But if there's one thing I learned if you only have a short time to make something, then keep it limited and stick to the limits. Lol.

I played to the moon today and I thought that text killed the gaming expereince for people but i realized if you did it correctly it doesn't have to so

i am not going to be afraid to incorporate more text into mine.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
