    Not a screenshot but a video, I redid a cutscene from my game, almost done but needs a little more tweaking. I might enter it in the cutscene contest for the RM birthday.

    @padr81:
    • I feel like you with with an unnecessarily large resolution. It makes the characters look tiny and the text is also a bit difficult to read. Maybe enlarge it.
    • Your inn seems a little too fancy for a village.
    • The antagonistic knight lady's hair looks a little too vibrant. Likewise I find Biggs' (where's Wedge?) hair doesn't look natural enough. I just desaturate the hair in GIMP.
    • I feel that you can switch up event sprites so that they can run. It's a bit narmy for that one soldier to just walk up to your characters. Also I think that the helmets they wear would belong to a knight more than a common soldier.
    • Maps feel unnecessarily large and seem to have repetitive elements.
    • Great lighting effects.
    Basically you need to lower the size of things since you go for unnecessarily big. Also the diagonal stuff seems awkward to me if you're staying with 4-directional movement. The Suikoden town screenshot I posted should give you an idea that it's not necessary to work with.
    ---
    I have at least updated the inn, even though I went a little nuts with the rocks.

    @padr81
    I also think your resolution is on the large side. I'm on my phone so I couldn't read the text at all. The smaller text boxes are kind of nice, but also kind of odd. Some are crazy small, some are huge, like the soldier's in the inn. Cool mapping and lighting effects on the outside. Because I am on my phone, I had no idea what was going on and the inside mapping was a little on the square side. Characters looked good. I kinda like how home girl's hair was vibrant, don't know if this supposed to be a more time period setting or straight fantasy though, so it might need to be toned down some if you want it to look more natural.

    All in all, really cool scene so don't take these constructive criticisms the wrong way because I thought it was awesome.

    @padr81 I like your new lighting effects. I do agree, though, that the text boxes are too small and the resolution a tad too high. I've no problem with your red haired knight, and have liked her since playing the demo.

    @BloodletterQ Your map is looking nice. Are you using the grass decal to give your grass tiles a bit more texture? Also, because the area is inhabited by man, don't be afraid of giving the surrounding wilderness a bit more order. We have shaped our surroundings for thousands of years for practical and aesthetic reasons.

    Thanks guys, the resolution is a bit of an issue as when its lowered I think the characters look clunky, maybe I'll be able to find a happy medium around 1200ish pixels.

    @padr81 I loved the music you selected, it fit well with the drama. It's true the text was very small, so I missed some of it, and since dialogue is important in your scene, I couldn't follow 100% But I thought it had a good conflict and the scene ended on a high note.
    I liked your character designs and the town map too.

    @starlight dream - Thanks, I moved the text box more central and made the text bigger so hopefully, it looks better in-game.

    Has anyone played around with making their own buildings in photoshop? I am making some for my project, as, well, default map making in VXA/MV doesn't allow for much freedom.

    I managed to make something like that now:

    [IMG]

    and I obviously need to improve... I definitely have to add some shading to that, but any other hints on how to make stuff like that look good, or at least decent?

    Especially the unusual shaped roofs... those are hell to design!

    Congrats on creating something so detailed, it looks nice!^^ I've no experience with rooftops unfortunately so I'm pretty useless.

    I think the grey bricks need some shading (on the deeper walls where shadow will be cast). I really like the light grey of the top floors. It harmonizes well with the red tiles

    Thanks! I will definitely work on shadows on "inner" walls, and probably some drop shadow past the building as well, so it doesn't look as flat

    Improved the shading, and it looks much better now. Gotta move onto next building now.

    And I guess posting another screenshot, from the intro, won't hurt.

    Second building done, along with the rest of the map. It's slightly empty, but using "realistic" settings gives me an excuse to not overfill the maps with flowers ;) Although getting NPCs to fill them up will be tricky. I'm gonna have to roam through Medieval assets looking for somewhat modernish-looking setups.

    Yes, that is a trebuchet in bottom right part of the screen. Student project!

    @padr81 Looks fantastic! I really like the lighting effects. Are they created via a plug-in or overlays?

    The ambient light, light off the crystals and fire are using Khas advanced lighting plugin to cast shadows, although there is some soft parrallax lighting too.

    @padr81 It looks really good. Is the water animated? If so, how did you make it look so nice? Good looking animated water is something I struggle with.

    Nope, the water is not animated there, but I might replace that layer where the water is with tileset water. and have the land around. The map is 99% the work of my mapper for the game. I only really added the lighting and helped with the layout planning.

    @padr81 I'm also using inanimate water to get those sexy cures. :p @Jesse - PVGames mentioned a plug-in which lets you add a sort of moving parallax layer or image to create the illusion of flowing water, but I'm not too sure how to use it.
