Script Noob needs help with custom parties

I want the ability to pick and choose from a-many party members at any time from the pause menu, with the main character locked. (20 total)

But I can't seem to find, understand or get scripts to work for me. I get it that I need to paste scripts, but often it ends up creating errors, or not working. I'm a complete idiot. Please help me.

If there is a script you are wanting to use for this, please link it. I assumed there was as you said you can't get scripts to work. If you are needing a script for it, we can move it to Script Requests.

I used Galvas Army Manager, but it isn't what I really need. I only need a six man party, with people joining in during later parts of the story.

Yanfly's Party manager script is probably better here.

I tried...but the only one around is for MV. The VX Ace one (https://yanflychannel.wordpress.com/rmvxa/core-scripts/party-system/) is dead. And I tried the github one, it's got the problem of being a browser and including invisible/unusable characters.
