Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some help getting this game together on the graphic and mapping side. I'm primarily trying to get the first major town completed as it is a big part of my story and I have zero artistic ability. This could potentially be paid work but it would be very modest payment per piece of work. There are several other reasons it's listed in project recruitment rather than classifieds and why it has a mix of free/hire tags (please skip to “payment details” now if your primary interest is paid work).

Who/what I'm looking for:

While I don't expect miracles for little compensation I am looking for those who are talented and whose style is agreeable with what I hope to achieve. I'm seeking someone who can do any of the following, using Ace: (So that this doesn't turn into a novel please PM me for specific details if the general idea interests).

Mapping – Looking for someone who's good at putting together functional, aesthetically pleasing maps. What type of map really doesn't matter much to me, as long as it looks somewhat unique and not too square-like. Not everything needs to be unique but I would like the overall map to stand out from the standard. For the first major piece I am trying to create a hometown map that the lengthy prologue of the story will revolve around. The scenery will be based off of the (mid to late 1800's, USA) wild west look/time period. This is going to be a decent sized map, very roughly 100 X 100. At a later point in time if the rough draft of the game progresses well I may pay for a custom tile or tilesets and may have the map edited. That way the map will have a more unique look but I wouldn't have to invest in what are usually very expensive resources in the very early stages of the game.
Anyone with additional graphic related skills is a major plus.

Note: I am only interested in exclusive work for this game. You will always get credit, but I am not interested in work that you intend to resell or use in other games. Once I pay for the work or we reach another agreement, I would want the work used in this game only.

Story synopsis:

At this stage of the game it's really hard to describe the story without giving away much of the shock value/twist built into the game. If I establish a working relationship with someone I could start to divulge more but if you must know the entire back story up front this probably won't work out. So I don't want to give out too much information as far as the actual story. Since this section is required to post in this forum I will try to cover some vague information.

The background for this game is going to be reminiscent of the wild west and some events may bear similarities to real life. However, the game is not going to be considered America or meant to exactly replicate real events/stories – it will be a purely fictional work. This is going to be a long game. I'm shooting for 10+ hours as a minimum but would like to do much, much more. So, this is going to be a massive long-term project for me. I am striving for something unique and not totally cliché. You won't be the chosen hero the prophecy foretold of fighting off progressively harder versions (colors) of the same group of insects (or w/e) until you ultimately kill the baddy and save the world. If executed well those games can be really good, it's just not what I'm going for here.

This game will have a fairly dark tone/premise and hopefully be more compelling/emotional than the typical story in the genre. It will have a strong amount of humor woven into it to help offset the mood some. It will also be teen, if not adult oriented. I'm not intending to go over the top with the teen-adult themes, but just a fair warning for those who may be sensitive or only interested in an all ages type of game. The game will be relatively realistic: rather than your typical standard magic, the main party will have a variety of more realistic weapons, as will their enemies. There will also be ample opportunity for magical, special effect type stuff to mix up gameplay. In these instances the effects will make logical sense even if the premise is a little far-fetched. Basically it will be much more realistic than a typical game in the genre but not so much so that it loses its magic (pun intended) and become boring. Dialog choices the character makes will impact the narrative and gameplay.

I am mulling over some ideas for battling, and trying to get an idea of how that will intertwine with mapping/layout. However, I'm not focusing too much on the battle system yet. I know I want the game to be challenging and not an easy button mashing game. I plan to make it unique and challenging in a strategical manner, rather than just requiring grinding for artificial “difficulty”.

If someone is interested in helping with the artistic aspects of the game I can divulge a little more of the story in private (the longer I know you and the more work completed the more I'll divulge). Once the hometown is completed in its entirety I plan to use that map's story as a gauge for anyone I'm seriously working with to determine if they like, and want to get heavily involved in, production of the game. I also hope to use it to potentially recruit others.

Payment Details:
There is the potential for money here and I will most likely try to buy at least the first hometown map and the related work outright. However, there are several reasons I'm listing it here instead of as a straight classified/paid work:

1) I can definitely pay but it would be very modest per piece of work. I'm primarily looking for someone who sees this as a hobby, would like to get their name on something, or challenge themselves and potentially make a few dollars here and there on the side, rather than one who does this work for a living. I would like to eventually go commercial with this *if* things go well some long time down the road. It's a hobby for me right now though. I don't want to prematurely dump excess money into a hobby, so I'm going to take it one step at a time. Even if it does eventually reach a stage where its ready to push for commercial I need to be realistic about what kind of return even a great rpg maker game could net in the modern era.

2) I have a general idea/plan/concept/sketch for the map but I don't know *exactly* how things should be laid out. I would like to bounce some ideas off of someone capable and also get their input. I am still new to this and am hoping to glean some knowledge about the capabilities and limitations of the game myself (related to the graphics). This also gives you some creative freedom.

3) Although it is definitely not necessary I am really hoping to find someone who, if they like what comes from my end of the project, would consider staying on long-term for graphics/mapping. That would entail a life that's not so busy that they wouldn't have some free/spare time to work on this game if it was something they really liked. If I find someone very talented and productive and things really start to take off we could discuss royalties. That would be in exchange for working on a major chunk of game graphics and could include some cash as well, but it's way too premature at this point.

Although I can't pay a whole lot I will respect the time and effort that anyone puts into this and will not waste your time (but like I explained in the post I would need some consult advice/input in some areas). If for some reason I am no longer interested in creating the game or for some reason can't work on this project any longer I'll do my best to buy out anything that's being worked on, including anyone that may offer to do substantial work for free in hopes of getting their name on something. If worse comes to worst you could simply keep full rights to your graphics if you wish but I'll try to reach an amicable agreement within reason should this ever happen.

Actual payment:

Credit/Debit Card: I can use any trustworthy credit/debit card processor that doesn't require me to create an account that attaches my bank account (please ask me first though). I don't trust Paypal at all and thus I closed my account with them long ago. I can still pay you via credit card using paypal if you're account is enabled to accept charges from non-members. I'm willing to pay some up front to those with great reputations here, otherwise I would want to see some work before sending a down payment.

Check or money order: If you're in the USA. If you're elsewhere and fees/time delays aren't a major hindrance. Since I'd have little recourse with this method I would only do so for those willing to front the work and be paid afterward.

Some Major changes I edited my initial post to reflect:

- After going through layout ideas in more depth it seems more likely that the map will be closer to the low end of what I projected: 100 X 100 rather than 150 X 150. So still a nice sized map but not nearly as large as before. There will also be many buildings in this town map which will take up a lot of this space so it may not be quite as overwhelming as it seems.

- I am now primarily looking for a mapper and I don't need to have tiles created beforehand, so there's no major barrier to getting started. Although if this project takes off and seems worth investing heavily in I will likely get custom tiles at a later date and have the maps modified somewhat to make them a little more unique. I can always have a few tiles here and there created if needed and a mapper that can create/edit tiles or create other graphics is a major plus, but not necessary. Having map(s) completed may actually be very helpful in developing a tilset idea.

I can be a mapper but i can't make tiles.
Thanks for your interest, if you have any examples of your mapping abilities please PM me and I will take a look at them to see if they are what I'm looking for.

Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
