Legacy of Eathetoria
(Pronounced "E-Thuh-Tor-E-Yuh")

TO ANY AND ALL WHO DECIDE TO OFFER/INQUIRE, PLEASE HAVE, AND BE COMFORTABLE WITH USING DISCORD (voice never required, but highly encouraged due to screen share being convenient). MY DISCORD TAG IS
Zerothedarklord#8459

POSITIONS DESIRED:

Idea bouncer, Mapping Assistant, gameplay tester(s), Battle animation creator,
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: DIALOGUE AND STORY WRITER

MY ROLE(S):

I will be handling everything, I am merely seeking assistance. But generally speaking, I will be taking care of everything else, mapping, database work, etc.

SKILLS TO OFFER/TRADE:

I would also like to offer my abilities to anyone who may be seeking anyone to recruit for any aspect of their projects, or who otherwise simply need help or ideas.

Gameplay Mechanics

  • The big, major ones are as follows:
    - Battle system is ATB (Things are time/tick-based)
    - Time system (Orange) with manually set dark/light periods and transitions and visible Clock display
    - Lights (Terrax)
    - Crafting system, including material harvesting from nodes, time-based node respawns

CHARACTERS

  • ALL CHARACTERS ARE NOW FINALIZED! BACKGROUND STORY STILL REQUIRED.

    ----- Reignolde (pronounced "Rhine-Old")
    - "Disciple" (second highest only under the Captain) of the Knight's Guild, of the Eathetorian Kingdom's Army.
    - Knight Class is essentially a tanky Warrior with castable buffs to increase ally's stats, wears Heavy Armor, 1H & shield.
    - Main character

    ----- Xalvador (pronounced "Zal-Va-Door")
    - "Disciple" of the Barbarian's Guild, of the Eathetorian Kingdom's Army
    - Barbarian Class is a light ("Leather") armor-wearing class that utilizes 2 Handers (either Axe or Sword), each weapon type
with it's own unique traits: 2H Axes are weaker than swords, but passively have a 10% chance to stun the enemy, which is
extremely powerful with ATB, because if you stun during the target's "charge up" time, they completely lose their turn and
the ATB turn bar starts over from empty. 2H Swords are just outright stronger, and each weapon type has it's own unique
    skills.
    - Best friend to Reignolde, additional info not fully fleshed out yet. But BASICALLY a starting character.

    ----- Sabeline (pronounced "Say-Buh-Lean")
    - Princess of Eathetoria
    -
(Spoiler learned in first 15 minutes of gameplay) Secretly learning sorcery, she is the game's Main spellcaster, capable of utilizing Fire, Frost, Lightning and Arcane Magic (Time-based magic as well, but it's classed as Arcane)
    - NOT a starting character
    - Background and character still under development, with minor bits and some framework starte
----- Luciana (pronounced "Loo-She-Ah-Nuh")
- Sorceress like Sabeline, but her abilities have advanced much further. Her class
is called "Chaos Mage", she's trained in sorcery long enough to master more
powerful magic: Shadow and Holy. She can still make use of Earth, Wind and
Nature magic, but her main spells are shadow and holy.
STORYLINE/SYNOPSIS

  • Full overall story and plot still under construction (Feedback & Ideas always welcome)
    The story so far:
  • Knight Reignolde of the Eathetorian Knight's Guild learns a secret about the Princess that rattles him; she is training in secret to learn how to use magic (usually referred to as Sorcery). The first question that comes to his mind is why. He wonders why she would feel the need. After a visit to the King, much is revealed about her motives, some of her backstory, etc., and just like a Switch being toggled, he understands.
The Princess is kidnapped right out from her room in the castle, presumably by an opposing kingdom, a chat with the King quickly confirms this to be the case. The chase is on to get her back.

(Exact details of this event are currently being developed, and are therefore open to discussion, but it should be known that she is one of the main party characters, and as such is rescued quite early on (currently sitting in the database as joining by level 12), so nothing too overly long or elaborate, if ideas are pitched)

Exact reasoning behind her abduction currently not 100% concrete, ideas can be discussed, but the greater idea and setup is to do with a pretty devastating past about to repeat itself for Eathetoria's King.

Eventual plot plan to include a war between Eathetoria and neighboring kingdom (tentatively named Laronde (pronounced Luh-Ron-Day). Laronde has strictly outlawed Sorcery, and even actively hunts known sorcerers with a type of "new technology" to suppress magic (exact workings aren't 100% yet, the idea is that it weakens/suppresses magic of anyone nearby, possibly silences, or outright counters). The precise reasoning for the Princess' abduction isn't 100% set in stone, but it isn't simply "hey you know our neighbor kingdom's princess is a sorceress, right? shouldn't we do something about that?".

    Other known locations include:
----- Stoutheim (pronounced exactly as it looks)
    - Kingdom to the south of Eathetoria, but unlike Eathetoria and Laronde, openly invites and welcomes Sorcerers, and even having a Sorcerers Guild within the kingdom's ranks, unlike Eathetoria and Laronde, who only employ Knights, Barbarians and Assassins.
    - The Man teaching the princess sorcery is stated to be from Stoutheim, though no specific locations or info has otherwise been stated about him, or about the kingdom.

    ----- Savagelands
    - Located north of Eathetoria, barely mentioned so far, the king mentions "very powerful "savages"" said to have come from the north, the idea behind the people from this location is for them to be like Vikings, they don't directly have a kingdom, at least none clearly defined yet.

-----UPDATE!!
I've decided on more of the story, going forward. This is still basic framework, there's just more of it now.
- Stoutheim is actively training and raising magic users into their ranks. The way
Sorcery works in this world is that you start learning with the basic elements (Fire, Ice, Lightning), eventually you will transition forward into the next "Tier",
wherein you will begin learning Arcane, Earth & Wind magic. Eventually, you
will move on from there to Nature, Holy and Shadow magic. And the final step
is Necromancy. Sorcery has the power to corrupt the minds of man. That
corruption typically begins with Shadow magic, and continues with Necromancy.
- It's beginning to look a lot like just a big "chase" to find out who the "real"
antagonist really is. In the beginning, it looks like it'll be Laronde, as while they
had a legitimate reason for kidnapping the Princess, it isn't learned outright until
after pretty good-sized battle between the two kingdoms. (It will end up being
revealed that they found out about the Princess learning sorcery, and decided to
intervene in order to protect her and her kingdom from the corruption she would
unknowingly bring from learning Necromancy.) In essence, it will be found out
that Laronde kidnapped her in order to save her from being used by Stoutheim.
At that time, focus will then shift onto Stoutheim, who will have by then amassed
a decent-sized army that will utilize some very powerful Necromancers. At this
time, I have yet to hammer out ALL of the details as to why Necromancers are so
powerful, but to those of you who are familiar with Warcraft, consider Necromancers to almost be a mini Lich King. They will be capable of becoming EXTREMELY powerful, threatening and dangerous if left unchecked. I've also yet
to decide on whether or not Stoutheim was willingly raising Necromancers into
their ranks, or if the Sorcery they learn is merely tainted/corrupted, unknown by
anyone until it's too late. A possibility I was considering was perhaps those of the
Savagelands could be the ones responsible, as they aren't part of the same "Network" of Kingdoms, perhaps they could have had some kind of motive or reason to desire the fall of the Kingdoms to their South.

This is an early screenshot of the First Boss in the game. This isn't a storyline boss, but rather, an optional "good thing I happened to explore" boss you can find with no impact on anything related to the main progression, and therefore, incredibly difficult to take on At-Level, but extremely fun and showcases many of the game's awesome combat features very early on.

Forests and Outdoor areas that aren't inside a town/village don't have torches to light the area at night, instead, there are some other, more natural means of light. Light within Caves is still up in the air, it would feel kind of awkward having torches all over the place inside a cave, it makes sense in the middle of a village, but inside of a cave I feel like, while convenient, it would just feel silly. Any suggestions?

All screenshots taken from my phone, sorry if they look like trash.

Could you explain more about what skills you're willing to trade in exchange of people helping you with this game?

Also, this is just a wild suggestion; so you can do with it however you want. Instead of using torches in caves, what about using glowing crystal. You can explain it as them glowing because mana is flowing through it.

Funny you'd suggest that, lmfao. that's actually exactly what I went with. I'm nearly finished with the first cave now.

With regard to what I can offer, General databasing (say you need skills, items, etc. done, I can pretty much do whatever, with the exception of battle animations, of which I unfortunately am not great at. I'm okay at it, just VERY impatient with how long they can take). I've also more recently gotten halfway decent at mapping, I feel (at least relative to how awful I was during the old days of VX). Play testing is of course another thing I can do, and having used RPG Maker for several years, should be able to provide relatively thorough feedback, as I would have a pretty extensive understanding of what's going on.

What about static battlers for side-view battles? I’m kinda interested in seeing some if you don’t mind sharing them.

Do you mean like creating the actual art to make new/custom battler images? If that's what you mean, I'm not artist, I can't make my own custom images.

I'm studying to be a Game Designer and Narrative Designer at the Academy of Art University.
In my signature is a link to my GDD here in the forums. My youtube channel has a 30 minute rambling of Character development.

I use psychology, MBTI for personalities, and Narrative arcs. I can work for free if you give credit as a Narrative Designer should you publish. If interested I can PM you a concept short story of my game characters I used last semester to give you an idea of my writing skills. It was a final assignment and passed giving me an A overall for the Class.

Sure Right now I'm working on a school assignment (never coded until last fall) where I have to make a space invaders game in unity. If the screen name is similar, I will PM you there.

Edit: I could use some database help we can discuss that.

The storyline currently seems generic. Random spitball idea, all the heroes die early on and you play the rest of the game as one of their mothers as a quest for vengeance. At the end of the game, you give up your quest due to an injury, and die of old age a few decades later. (but not before watching the villain die at his funeral due to betrayals in his own court)

Sounds swell, yeah my discord tag is in massive caps at the top of the OP.

Interesting idea, hahaha.

As funny as that premise sounds, it'd be more interesting storyline wise, than say, x heroes find a mysterious woman with magical powers. Cause, I'm gonna be real here, I'm not gonna play that. Not all tropes are bad, but that one has been beaten into the dirt.

Now, I don't want to discourage your game making. But at the same time, I don't want you to accidentally set yourself up for failure. So I have to ask two questions...

1, how old are you? Cause if you're teenager or just turned 20, disregard everything I've said and do whatever you want.

And 2, how important is this storyline to you? Cause if you're willing to have other people write it, it doesn't seem that important. It seems less like a story that needs to be told, and more like a game feature that's included so people will like the game.

At the end of day, you don't need a complex storyline for a good video game. Goal, yeah. Setting, sure. Characters, maybe. In depth plot? Not so much.

I like to think of what I've come up with so far as the frame of a house. That frame is useful for holding everything together, but without any walls, a frame is pretty bare and simple. Similarly, my planned story so far is pretty basic and bare-bones, but it sets a foundation for the world and the story to be told overall. It sets up, say, point B and point C, but the journey between those two points is entirely open at this point.

I get what you mean though, maybe I should add in some dragons to really spice things up? :p

As for your idea though, it isn't bad by any means, I feel like I'm too far along by now to do it, but contrary to how I probably sounded before, I actually really like it and think it's a rather solid idea, despite the simplicity.

This is the very first (main story) boss encounter in the game, fresh after getting your first caster party member. He is likely to be a recurring boss, at least to some degree.

I've reached a point where I can make a playable demo. If anyone is interested, I will throw one together. At this stage, all crafting, except tailoring, is currently created and useable in game, as well as the very first weapon enchants.

Hello! I am more than willing to offer my services as a writer to help write dialog! I consider myself to be a very skilled writer and assuming the character personalities haven't already been made by Pyrathas I would be very keen on writing them as well! Please get back to me as soon as possible!

I know you didn’t request it, but I’m pretty good at making puzzles if you’re interested. I’d also like to take a look at the demo, if at all possible.

Sorry about not adding last night, my power's out at home so it make some things difficult. It should be back on tonight, however.

Save/Load complete. Kind of. There should be trinkets or medals that fit in the empty space of the bookmarks to show progression. Was gonna post it earlier, but I couldn't link GIFs. Don't mind all of them having a style level of 000, it just means they're all nakey and don't have anything equipped.

One question-why is your user picture a shelf of greeting cards at a store? XD
Is reading: book on finding happiness through patience.
Gets: impatient.
The hypocrisy of man.
Finalized my save/load window today! I'm really happy with the results.
