Selectable loot

I've been trying to figure out how to have randomized selectable loot in my game.


Basically, When you open up a chest, you aren't automatically given an item. You are presented with a choice menu that displays the
items in the chest. Kinda like Fallout or Skyrim.


I'm trying to do this though events only. Any tips?

I think it's only use is the case when the items has weight, or some other inventory limitation... is that the case?

You can just use the even structure for making choices. The quick and easy way is to just quickly make a chest event, pull out the part where it gives you an item and shows text, and use the "Show Choice" option, put the options there and and then give item and show text based on whichever choice.

That is the case. I'm using TheoAllen's Limited Inventory Script.

The problem is that I want the loot to be randomized.

Ah, well. For random loot, I made common events that chose a random number and then did a bunch of conditional branches to check if whichever number, then this loot.


To combine that idea with a CHOICE of this random loot could get even more complicated. You can store the item's ID in a variable, but not the name... In your choice text you could likely use a script snippet to display the name of the item. This is still largely event-driven at least, but I don't think there's a way to entirely avoid script for a task such as this.


Unfortunately, because you're using Ace and Ruby gives me a headache, you'll have to ask someone else about an appropriate script snippet.


As a side note, we're not really supposed to double-post around here. There edit buttons on your posts you can use to tack on additional information. You can even hit a quote button and stick that quote in later, too. Also, you can do @username and click on a person's name (in lieu of quoting them) and  they will get a notification when you post your reply.
