Self-Sacrifice Skill in battle (RPG Maker VX Ace)

Hey there! I've been googling around and haven't found anything related to this so I just wanted to ask for help.


What I want to do is give a character an ability to "sacrifice themselves" for another party member during battle. That is, I want them to take any damage directed to the chosen party member during the next enemy turn. (As if they were throwing themselves in front of the other). Is there any way to do that? I'd really appreciate the help!!

Check out default state #11 'Cover' which allows one actor to 'Substitute' for another.  If it doesn't do what you want, let us know how you want it to differ from that.

Oh I didn't think to check states thank you! Does that work targeted, though? What I want is for the player to select one specific ally that the character covers for, the substitute flag just says "covers for allies with less HP".

That, I think, needs a script.  You will have to search in the script forums, I don't have a link.

Alright then, I'll experiment to see whether I can find a way to make it work and read through some scripts. I know I found one saving user and target IDs into temp variables in common events, maybe I could use that somehow. Thanks for the help!!
