One of the mistakes I made last time I went to make a game was I exclusively used Standard switches instead of ANY self switches. Needless to say things got cluttered and confusing fast.
So i'm trying to learn about the different ways to use self switches, and so I just want to ask a question:

I'm trying to make a door, and doing this i've made a 3 part self switch involving a closed door, the door opening, and the door not being there.

how do I make it so that when the player leaves the area the door is in, the self switch resets to a closed door? I could see this being useful later.

there are script commands to reset self-switches from other events, or you can work with a general reset page that react to a regular switch, or a few other methods.

Which one is best used depends on what and how you used the self-switches.

Can you show us the event you have with its pages and how it uses self-switches.

I admit, a door usually doesn't need any switches to work (you can check how the quick-event-doors work for example).

As embarrassed as I am to admit it, I actually just came back to announce the fact that i'm dumb, lol. Yeah a fairly simple 1 page event was more than enough for a simple door. As for Self switches in general, are they usually not meant to reset? Like I said before, I underused them a lot my first time through.

Self switches are like the regular switches, but only exist for that event. So, no, they do not reset.

Only use self switches for changes that you want to make permanently.  If you want to change something and have it reset when you next enter the map, just use move route commands to change the graphic.  You might need to read up a bit on what self switches are and when they should be used.  The link in my signature would be a good place to look.

Are we allowed to post about non-RPG Maker games? And, if so, would any of you be interested in a short, proof of concept type non-euclidian puzzle game?
I should realize that error was produced by a outdated version of MZ so that's why it pop up like that
