Hi guys, it's been quite awhile. Just wanted to update that my friend, Hyde, created a thread prettifier for me. ^_^ This game is still going strong, but mainly with databasing and pencil work, as well as menu finalizations. <3
This is more of a question, with the addition of a screenie at the end of this post.
Since the beginning of working on this game, I have been against a battle system... However, as the story progresses farther, the more I am lead to believe I may need one. I need your thoughts on this.
Caution, there is a spoiler here for a reason. If you do not want to be spoiled (even how slight this may be) by the games ending, I suggest you do not click it.
The reason this is a harder decision than I'd like is simply because of the games ending. I know most of you are thinking "Harvest Moon? Sweet, I can play forever!" Sadly, you're wrong. This particular game is not set in the normal Harvest Moon environment and in order for it to get to where I want my story to be, it has to end.
In order to beat the game, you have to defeat the evil king. There are three different ways this could be achieved:
1. Through a series of questions.
2. Bringing the villagers along and having them beat the king while you save the Princess (which is what I'm leaning towards)
3. Creating a battle system for you to defeat the king.
The first one isn't really feasible to the storyline.
I'm really leaning toward the second and third options, however like most they both have their pros and cons.
Number Two is a good option for a few different reasons. Regardless of which option I choose, your best friend, and his/her significant other will die in this part of the game. I want to create a sense of love, betrayal, hope, and fear, all in one. They have to die because that is the final step in the Awakening of the Princess. Your character will be so distraught, and will get on his knees to plead with her, the falling of his tears will bring her back to life. However, it's still not enough to save the island.
Number Three is a good option because not only does it allow for more exploration areas and more achievements for the player, it also allows you to face the pure form of evil in this game, along with your best friend and their significant other. Con? The game will probably drag on longer with this option, will create a big stalling of the game if you cannot defeat him, and force you to watch the death of your best friend. This option will allow for him to say his dying words to you.
So, what are your thoughts? Does not having a battle system make my game stand out? I have a lot of mixed emotions on this for the simple fact that I am able to implement a lot more with adding a battle system, however, I don't think my game needs it and I can get around certain things without it.
And so this post isn't completely useless, here is some eye-candy. Yes, you will be allowed to drink alcohol in this game, festivally though. Late night scenes and whatnot for this tavern. Suspect to be here a lot.
So, the lady who was working on my art, life became to hectic for her to continue commissions. D: So, I went out and asked around for people who wanted commissioned art. After quite a few people, I decided on one! And she already has done my first character. :3 Instead of presenting to you someone you are already familiar with in the game, I decided to go with a brand new character. Presenting Clementine, the nurse (and daycare runner). Ain't she cute? She still has to be edited to fit the game and what-not, so if anyone had free time to crop her into bust form, that'd be great!
Also, this game is being put on hiatus until ALL my characters are done. D: Sorry about the inconvenience!
Ohmygosh. They are DONE!! Sequoia and Kori, that is. :3 As a reminder, the first spoiler will show you their original images. The second will show you what they look like now.
If you look around, you can find some high quality artists who will work with any budget. I HIGHLY recommend getting custom art for your games if you cannot do it yourself.
Sorry for the large images. I haven't changed the sizes through my editor yet. :3 BUT AREN'T THEY CUTE!?!?!?!?!
She only charges me $15 per character and she sends me the sketched version. ^-^ I really don't think that's a bad deal at all. For the previous, the person was charging me $25. Still not bad, but definitely not as much detail as I wanted.
This is a pretty cool idea, but will you be able to chose/make a character and chose whoever you want to marry, (and be gay, lesbian, or straight), or are you a preset character?
Sorry if you already answered this or said it somewhere else, and I missed it.
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!
Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
