There was once a prosperous nation ruled by an emperor who sought the greatest of wealth. His greed knew no bounds, turning his attention to the gemstones atop the foreheads of a rather peculiar species of rabbit-like creature. These mythical stones were said to be capable of curing any ailment, granting luck and all other such mythical effects.
However the more he hunted, the more stones he collected, the more blood he spilled, the worse the fortunes that befell the entire nation. A curse; placed upon the lord and his people for the inhumane acts against the very creatures blessed by nature itself, that is what the people began to say.
Since then, the mythical carbuncle has been sighted across many lands, often found near springs and deposits of magical ores. All places which are often placed under protective custardy by the surrounding nations under fear of the curse being spread once more by fools seeking wealth and power they do not deserve.
However scientists have begun to notice a peculiar pattern in regards to the habitats of these creatures, they are all locations containing extreme concentrations of magical energies. Magical energies that normally if left unchecked prove toxic to both humans and the surrounding wildlife alike, and yet the toxic potency of these energies remains low. Could there be some connection between the carbuncles and the suppression of harmful energies...
